Purdue Pharma pleads guilty to opioid charges

Purdue Pharma, the maker of OxyContin, pleaded guilty Tuesday to three federal criminal charges related to the company's role in creating the nation's opioid crisis.

Purdue Pharma board chairman Steve Miller pleaded guilty on behalf of the company during a virtual federal court hearing in front of US District Judge Madeline Cox Arleo.

The counts include one of dual-object conspiracy to defraud the United States and to violate the Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, and two counts of conspiracy to violate the Federal Anti-Kickback Statute.

Despicable and outrageous criminality by a major pharmaceutical company.  Their already huge profits weren't quite enough somehow?   How many medically prescribed, loaded up, and then addicted people ended up ruined and suicidal because of Purdue's grinning and immoral greed.

But of course, it was good for the market.

The Justice Department has said Purdue Pharma will function entirely in the public interest rather than to maximize profits. Its future earnings will go to paying the fines and penalties, which in turn will be used to combat the opioid crisis.

These were criminal charges, but of course, you can't put a corporation in prison. Does anyone believe for a moment that the owners of the corporation, the (((Sackler))) family, will ever be held criminally responsible for their actions and those of their corporation? Do you recall seeing any perp walks after (((Goldman Sachs))) and the other investment firms thoroughly fleeced America through subprime mortgages in '08? I wouldn't hold my breath...

Don't buy into the whole Dem versus Repub paradigm that they're selling you, brother. They're virtually ALL criminals. Just two crime families fighting over which one gets to plunder for the next four years. Both Obama and Trump, just like their predecessors, are mere puppets for the oligarchs who fund them. No matter which party is in power, government continues to grow larger, more expensive, more burdensome.
