Tell me, did the French and U.S  governments charge protesters, activist leaders with "subversion", any politicans disqualified for protesting?

Did they commit crimes, break the law and goings guilty in the Court of law?

These insurgents has been protesting for well over a year, more often than not with destructive and violent behavior, did the government unleash military or the "National Guard" to stifle them?

These so called "innnocent" of yours surrounded and tried to burn down a police station, caused physical injuries to many officers and civilians alike.

So you carry on perpetuating your lies, organize your buddies on your quixotic delusional propagandist self aggrandizing quest.

Oh wow. I'm impressed. I think this is the first post where you managed to stay on topic.

With only one personal insult too. ;) lol.

For anyone who wants the police station story without Third Eyes spin.

https://hongkongfp.com/2019/06/21/pictures-flow-like-water-hong-kong-protesters-converge-police-hq-day-wildcat-road-occupations/

As always thousands upon thousands of peaceful protesters.

They threw eggs at the police station. To protest police brutality and of course the loss of their rights.

Third eye never mentions any police brutality though .

The "laws" of the CCP are an absolute joke. They just arrest anyone they deem to be a dissident and who doesn't think the "proper" way.

You wouldn't have to worry about that though. Being the good little bot you are.

Unfortunately, some radicals did eventually show up and throw some fire bombs. (The activist leaders arrest did not have anything to do with the fire bombs. Not that the CCP cares about the truth)

But only an idiot dismisses thousands upon thousands of protesters because of the actions of a few.

Only idiots who want to ignore the true reason for the protest.

It's been the playbook of oppressive regimes for centuries.

A statement of fact, with sincerity as well as honesty, that you find that an insult speaks volumes of your lack of integrity.

Hong Kong media tycoon and pro-democracy supporter Jimmy Lai has been charged with fraud and detained until a court hearing in April next year.

On Thursday a court denied him bail over a charge relating to the illegal use of his company's premises.

It comes a day after three prominent pro-democracy activists were jailed.

This is exactly what the protesters said would happen with the passage of the extradition bill and then later the security law.

The cases have raised fears of a renewed crackdown on the city's activists and media figures, spurred by a controversial new security law.

Mr Lai was arrested under the National Security Law earlier this year and later released on bail.

This is why the protest began.

Nobody cares. Hong Kong does not effect the 'man in the street', and even if it did, there is NOTHING anyone could do about it. And the Chinese KNOW this.

Anyone remember Tibet ?

Anyone can make a political accusation against anyone they have a political or religious difference though - doesn't mean a damn thing unless it can be proven in a court of law.

Which also doesn't mean anything if the laws are designed to oppress you.

As the trite example goes: the holocaust was legal in Germany.

Ten of 12 Hong Kong democracy activists arrested at sea as they tried to flee to Taiwan by speedboat have gone on trial in mainland China.

The hearing was closed to foreign reporters and diplomats but the court said in a statement that both prosecution and defence lawyers spoke.

Court was adjourned with no verdict.

The activists were caught in August in a rare attempt at escaping the city after a harsh new security law was introduced by Beijing in June.

Hong Kong has arrested dozens of pro-democracy activists and politicians, accusing them of trying to "overthrow" the city's government.

The group, arrested under a controversial new security law, were involved in an unofficial "primary" vote to select opposition candidates ahead of postponed 2020 elections.

Hong Kong's security secretary has said their actions were "subversive".

More than 50 of Hong Kong's most prominent pro-democracy activists and politicians have been arrested in the biggest crackdown since China imposed a draconian security law last year.

About 1,000 police took part in morning raids on 72 premises across the city.

Those held helped run an unofficial "primary" to pick opposition candidates ahead of postponed 2020 elections.

They are accused of trying to "overthrow" the government. Activists say the new law aims to quash dissent.

The foreign ministers of Australia, the United States, Great Britain and Canada have issued a joint statement expressing "serious concern" about the arrest of 55 democracy activists and supporters in Hong Kong last week.

The arrests were by far the largest such action taken under a national security law that China imposed on the semi-autonomous territory a little more than six months ago.

"It is clear that the National Security Law is being used to eliminate dissent and opposing political views," the four foreign ministers said.

Comment by UN Human Rights Office spokesperson Liz Throssell on the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, China

GENEVA (7 January 2021) – We are deeply concerned about the arrests on Wednesday of 53 political activists, academics, former legislators, current district councillors, and lawyers in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and we call for their immediate release. These latest arrests indicate that – as had been feared – the offence of subversion under the National Security Law is indeed being used to detain individuals for exercising legitimate rights to participate in political and public life.

The UN Human Rights Office and independent UN human rights experts have repeatedly warned that offences such as subversion under the National Security Law, passed in June 2020, are vague and overly broad, facilitating abusive or arbitrary implementation.

Yesterday’s arrests were the latest in a series of detentions related to the exercise of fundamental freedoms, including the right to peaceful assembly, in Hong Kong.

Hong Kong pro-democracy media tycoon Jimmy Lai has been sentenced to 14 months in prison after being found guilty of unauthorised assembly.

Mr Lai was one of several activists in court on Friday who were earlier found guilty of charges relating to large pro-democracy demonstrations in 2019.

The 73-year-old founder of Apple Daily is a fierce critic of Beijing.

The verdict comes as the mainland is increasingly cracking down on Hong Kong's rights and freedoms.
