A new hypersonic Chinese jet engine can fly at 16 times the speed of sound, fast enough reach anywhere in the world within two hours, according to sources in Beijing.

The prototype Soramjet engine has been successfully tested in a Chinese wind tunnel, reports state.

If the engine was to be scaled up and safely put into commercial aircraft, it could mean that planes could travel to any part of the world in less than two hours.

The Sodramjet engine model is developed with several flow control techniques, and tested successfully with the hypersonic flight-duplicated shock tunnel. The experimental data show that the Sodramjet engine model works steadily, and an oblique detonation can be made stationary in the engine combustor and is controllable. This research demonstrates the Sodramjet engine is a promising concept and can be operated stably with high thermal efficiency at hypersonic flow conditions.

Wow that would be cool, but the thing I wonder about is this jet would go eight times faster than the SR-71.  If such a jet existed certainly it would be ultra-top-secret because any military in the world would recognize the advantage such a craft would give, so how is this public knowledge?

Well color me skeptical after all it's a Chinese claim.

Now all they have to do is come up with a air frame that could take the G's and not to mention another type of human.
