Arcana Posted December 13, 2020 #1 Share Posted December 13, 2020 (edited) Winter was fast approaching The air was crisp and cold My eyes surveyed the landscape Of bleakness to behold All the wildlife was hiding Save for a scavenging crow The flowerbeds all lay dormant Awaiting first showers of snow I gazed out from my window Searching for a heavenly sign Something that whispered promise Where an absent sun may shine The sky was grey and dismal Rain wept from heavens above Upon fragile carpets of frost In a land devoid of love The world was sad with dismay Divisions grew everywhere Hope was a distant horizon So I uttered a heartfelt prayer If only I still knew That someone there upstairs Saw our sufferance and plight And proclaimed that he still cares A sign was all I asked for Something that would show That the world was not forgotten With a gesture I would know As I gazed upon the garden Where the icy cold wind blows There amidst the decay I saw a solitary rose The strangest thing about it As it towered above the lawn Whereas I saw it clearly There wasn't a single thorn Despite the barren vista Where the living seemed so frail No matter what the climate Life could still prevail The flower held such beauty It was a welcome sight I'd seen the sign I'd asked for That we will be alright Edited December 13, 2020 by Arcana 2
