How many here on UM have you converted to see what you see?

Wait. See what I see?

If anyone's been converted then they'll finally see what they see lol.

The writings besides the UB that recorded that thousands died.

That's the test.

There's always room for doubt lol.

There are others.

Others just not on UM

Davros,

You need to work on your sense of humor. You're too serious. Philo did many things in the shadows. However, they still ended up naming 'Philosophy' after him.

That's definitely interesting.

Hi Will

Care to validate this with some links?

jmccr8

It validates itself doesn't it?

I mean there's Plato. There's Aristotle. There's Socrates. There's a lot more...

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ancient_Greek_philosophers

But when talking about ancient philosophers, Philo is usually barely mentioned. If at all.

Yet, 'Philosophy' is obviously named after him.

Why?

Where are you getting that information from?

From wiki :

EtymologyEdit

"From Middle English philosophie, Old French philosophie, and their source, Latin philosophia, from Ancient Greek φιλοσοφία (philosophía), from φίλος (phílos, loving) + σοφία (sophía, wisdom). Synchronically, philo- +‎ -sophy."

https://www.qcc.cuny.edu/SocialSciences/ppecorino/roark-textbook/Chapter-1.htm :

What is Philosophy?

Part I. Definitions

Defining philosophy is as difficult as trying to define love. The word philosophy is not much help. Philosophy is a combination of two Greek words, philein sophia, meaning lover of wisdom. In ancient times a lover of wisdom could be related to any area where intelligence was expressed. This could be in business, politics, human relations, or carpentry and other skills. Philosophy had a "wholeness" approach to life in antiquity. In contrast to this, some modern definitions restrict philosophy to what can be known by science or the analysis of language"

@onlookerofmayhem

I'm not talking about defining philosophy, I'm talking about naming it.

Plato is definitely more famous than Philo. Why isn't it termed 'Platosophy'?

Hi Will

You made a specific claim tat Philo did things in the shadows which I quoted to get a answer that is specific to the question I asked. If you slander or imply unfounded speculation as you have then the responsible thing for you to do is either support of retract your comment.

Jay,

You still haven't acknowledged that there once was a landbridge between Italy and Africa LOL.

Oh yeah Jay, how does the existence of Gobekli Tepe fit in with there not being an advanced civilization in the region of southern Turkey/Syria that is dated to at least 12 thousand years ago and probably several times more back in history?

Well, just like Sophia means wisdom.

Most names have some sort of meaning behind them.

So you retract you statement, which I find pretty odd? :

Apparently not so obvious, eh?

That's not the question Jay.

The question is what does anything have to do with Philo?

Sometimes things like names are significant. Sometimes not. Names like yours for example lol.

I didn't retract anything btw.

Ha.

My name means "Gift of Yahweh."

So you're not retracting your claim that the word philosophy is "named" after Philo and that was obvious?

That's intellectually dishonest.

I've shown why you are in error.

Unless you can provide the source of your claim.

Hi Will

I see you have lost the integrity that you were earlier showing promise so in the interests of other members will write you off for dumba$$ery and let others critique your nonsense.

From the bleachers of the integrity-less I'm being accused of not having integrity.

What are you gonna do? Call the FBI?

Gawd I love 'discussing' things with you guys.

Hi Davros

Absofogginlutly Will has not interest in actually sharing on an intellectual level by supporting statements and engaging a subject productively and will not accept less from him as any other member here that shares my POV about discussions. I offered Will a thread of his own almost a year ago and he refused I don't mind arguing abstract concepts if they are discussed in a place where it is not an abstraction from serious readers of these topics my apology for the diversion.

I know. No problem.

I interacted with him to show my point of view to others. I knew nothing productive from him would come about.

Only thing of interest to me from him is what's his personal experience that led him to believe the UB. But I know no straight answer will fruit from it.

Believe you me, any claim of the non-existence of God is most definitely an abstract concept. But believe what you will. Sorry, I mean believe what you non-believe lol. I didn't mean to be disrespectful.
