One of my greatest friends who is a teacher once only told me as I struggled through a 12th grader who had to graduate after all my attempts failed and I was close to giving up his advice was “Sheri search deep in yourself until you find the way to turn on the light, this is on you.”

I asked how will I know, he said when you find the switch it will be apparent (meaning you will see it). The magic of CBT as I say, the brains own plasticity, but I didn’t control her thoughts, because this mindset only believes everything they think, habitually and rigidly.

Any way, she graduated and I did find the light switch and it was one hell of a challenge for me, too,

Good question.     In this universe of super nova explosions and everything whizzing around at incredible speeds.... I'm willing to settle for Balance and Peace.      Look at the moon in a deep blue sky on a beautiful sunny day....  Might as well say,. It's. Perfect.   ?       ...then again, it's the super nova explosions and such which CREATE the elements of which all is made !

it's all perfect!   :P

I hope you didn't pay too much for it, it's a very thin read and I got mine at a second hand shop, I'm sure you can find a copy cheaper than at amazon...

Sorry, it's 1am...should've mentioned it earlier...

Ex:wub:cellent

I love this

“Bodhidharma asked, "Can each of you say something to demonstrate your understanding?"

Dao Fu stepped forward and said, "It is not bound by words and phrases, nor is it separate from words and phrases. This is the function of the Tao."
Bodhidharma: "You have attained my skin."
The nun Zong Chi stepped up and said, "It is like a glorious glimpse of the realm of Akshobhya Buddha. Seen once, it need not be seen again."
Bodhidharma: "You have attained my flesh."
Dao Yu said, "The four elements are all empty. The five skandhas are without actual existence. Not a single dharma can be grasped."
Bodhidharma: "You have attained my bones."
Finally, Huike came forth, bowed deeply in silence and stood up straight.

Bodhidharma said, "You have attained my marrow." [8]

That's very Jungian.

CBT isn't Jungian depth analysis, but your statement of the ultimate goal of CBT fits in nicely with Jung. Maybe one difference is that CBT is results oriented, while depth analysis is more concerned to acquaint analysands with all of themselves. Jung acknowledged somewhere, though, that just becoming aware of the unconscious portions of the self would not in itself solve quality of life issues.

If I could point to one Jungian "thought" about achieving acceptance: Your characterization of the all included two archetypes, the saint and the sinner. The therapeutic boilerplate advice is don't identify with an archetype. Which is said in the sense of identify with the everything, the polar opposites and the in between - all that is there (and that isn't going anywhere, so deal with it).

And of course Jung's own taste was partial to comparative religion, and so he'd be on board that so many thraditions had long ago found different ways to express that idea (and different paths to get there).

Which brings us back around to the topic. The fully integrated, balanced, self-accepting-self was Jung's ideal state of being, and one of his conceptions of it was ... the image of God. (Abraxas, as Jung called that god in Seven Sermons to the Dead, which became the basis of the Pistorius sections of Hermann Hesse's novel Demian)

ETA: @Mr Walker

One of the dangers of mining copypasta by search terms is that the article you find might use some key word that you use, but use it differently than you use it. To control covers a multitude of relationships between the controller and the controlled. (I can't type that sentence without my mind's ear lapsing into French - the cognate of our word in French often means simply to check or verify something ... which is one possible meaning in English, too).

This may help explain why you so often post quote blocks that you think support your position, while your readers see plainly that they do not. As would be the case in the current instance.

No I CHOOSE bits to support my arguments

That simply shows that my arguments and facts  are not just made up but have support  I aware that often there are other arguments or pov

You make too much of the interpretation of control.

But as it happens i have now completed 3 CBT courses from  different universities and looked at the results with my GP  Thus my understanding is  extensive. I ismply used an academic source to confim facts i am well ware of .

Not because i need them myself but to help me understand how it s used and applied to  help others.

My quote showed Sherapy was wrong in how it is used to modify and alter emotional cognitive states and that we cannot control how we think and respond emotionally

Basically I developed and used my own CBT programme as a child

Sherapy doesn't LIKE the idea that emotions are constructed and can thus be shaped, formed, discarded; ie controlled  To control something can mean form complete  elimination, through reduction to modification or even to build reconstruct The point is that humans have the abilty to control this

Which Universities? The only university that you've mentioned in the past is Flinders, but I'm curious about the others.

Also, were these used to support your certification for counselling?

I also don't know why you'd go over the results with your GP as they are not an authority in psychotherapy/psychology.

He goggled “control thoughts” and found a match then posts the link. It is his pattern,

He doesn’t have practical knowledge about CBT but he can pretend to.

None the less, Third eye and Eighty have added so:much to thread.

I love that third eye recommended a wonderful book which I hope to finish tonight and eights Jungian contribution was engaging, interesting and insightful. I literally think eight is an expert on Jung.

I can’t help but think of the movie “Leaving Las Vegas” with Nickolas Cage and Elizabeth Shue. He was hell bent on drinking himself to death and she was determined to love him out of his death wish. He killed himself.

Lots of people believe in fairy tale love and that is what Will is offering, IMHO

“Love conquers all” both you and I know that is misleading.

I hope life finds you and your kids well.

At a time like this, it would be good to always remember things like this:

Quote

That Sabbath was a great day in the earth life of Jesus, yes, in the life of a universe. To all local universe intents and purposes the little Jewish city of Capernaum was its real capital. The handful of Jews in the Capernaum synagogue were not the only beings to hear that momentous closing statement of Jesus’ sermon: “Hate is the shadow of fear; revenge the mask of cowardice.” Neither could his hearers forget his blessed words, declaring, “Man is the son of God, not a child of the devil.”

It's all about enjoying your time here I guess. ;)

Yeah, he has really taken to it like I did when young. It's wonderful to watch develop. I actually toured most of the east coast as a lead player in my day. Great to see someone else enjoy what it brought to me.

LOL, someone's got to love be me I suppose. They were born into it...

First my GP WAS  an expert in counselling and psychology and has long been involved with suicide prevention programmes in the local area and state wide.

  quote

Suicide is a really horrible thing and while we can’t stop all of them from occurring we can prevent them claims an expert in the field, Dr. Graham Fleming when he was guest speaker at The Lone Pine Agricultural Bureau Social held at Langmeil Centre, Tanunda on Friday night.

Dr Fleming together with those present had earlier on been officially welcomed by Mr Grant Dahlitz, president.

In his address, Dr Fleming told of how he first discovered suicide with a 15 year old boy in Tumby Bay.This was followed by 13 more suicides in the region within the next 10 years.

With such a high death rate occurring, Dr Fleming took it upon himself to significantly reduce the number of suicides in his area at the time.

He explained that suicide happens when there is a situation of absolute despair and hopelessness. The victim often has a mistaken belief that suicide is their only way out.

https://barossaleader.com/we-can-prevent-suicide-says-dr-fleming/

https://www.wordsbywiseman.com.au/category/published-work/australian-rural-doctor/

Actually, make that nationwide.

Second

I did online courses  on the recommendation of this doctor I had been his patient for 20 years and taught all his children We also socialised together when his children were younger. His wife was also a qualified rural health counsellor and teacher .

I completed one from Sydney university one from  the ANU and I am not sure if the third was an Adelaide or Queensland university  (I looked a t both and had a go at several to see how they worked )

The motivation was both professional and personal

If you look at the articles you will see that Tumby Bay, where I was teaching, had one of the highest  youth suicide rates in the nation. Dr Fleming reduced this to one of the lowest.
I lost one colleague,  at last half a dozen students, and a number of friends, to suicide

Second we had lost my wife's nephew, and both his young daughters also attempted suicide a couple of times

I was involved in preventing two of these, physically. I also prevented a couple by neighbours (physically ) As a counsellor it was one of the mot serious issues i faced
