Will Trump start his own political party?

Recommended Posts

Eldorado

Recent reports have emerged of the 45th president forming a third party – the ‘Patriot Party’ – and the Republican establishment gulped. A competing Trump-helmed, white working class and Christian party would likely devastate the Republican party. He remains popular with the party’s faithful at the same time as Americans with college degrees continue to desert what was once the Party of Lincoln.

Insurrection comes with a cost, to a point. Despite the bloody attack on the capitol, seven out of eight Republicans approve of Trump, according to a recent NBC poll. Beyond that, he is the top choice for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination. No one else comes close.

Full monty from the UK Guardian via MSN: Link

President Trump has talked in recent days with associates about forming a new political party, according to people familiar with the matter, an effort to exert continued influence after he leaves the White House.

Mr. Trump discussed the matter with several aides and other people close to him last week, the people said. The president said he would want to call the new party the “Patriot Party,” the people said.

It will be interesting to see if it happens- we haven't had a new independent party make a serious go of it in a while.

If that happened, would it not split the Republican vote and give the Democrats a guaranteed win at the next election ?

From what I hear from the think tanks over this side of the globe, Trump has something up his sleeves to split the democrats too, drawing his future base voters from both sides, he may not be able to hold public office ever again but he's planning to have a hold on politicians in office.

The Republican Party is already split. All you have to do is watch the Talking Heads on Fox News to determine this. They’re so angry at themselves, it’s like watching proverbial weeping and gnashing of teeth.

The divide is widening, and it will continue to grow, the worse the pandemic and the resulting financial crisis gets.

I’m reminded of a favorite line from a Tom Cruise movie, where Cruise, who plays a lawyer in a jury death case says, “it’s about assigning blame.”

The American people will sit in judgment, and no manner of lie can cover up the truth in this case.

It could potentially- that's usually the fear of splintering of one of the two main parties, that it would mean the other party gets an automatic win. Like when the Tea Party splintered off there was concern. But it was an independent party at that point, and it's fairly difficult for independent parties to get a hold in the upper echelon of government. So it ended up not being much of a bother to either Republican or Democrat votes by the time the next presidential election came up.

If he does it'll only be so he can siphon the donations and turn into his next big money making scheme. He doesn't care about holding office and never did. He cares about finding a way to get gullible people to hand over their hard earned money to him with minimal effort.

Oh you got that right but I doubt you really understand the true nature of the political rapture that's about to occur.

On the contrary, I announced the end of the Republican Party in October of 2019 due to an “sickness” that would come in waves(parallel lines,) “like a tsunami.”

That’s a rare concept to forecast.

The “nature” of it, is Mother Nature, who went to war.

Will it be a party or just customers of a brand created for personal aggrandizement?   Will it simply be there to feed Trump's ego and infuse much needed cash into his businesses?

If it is a separate party, it would mean unending control by the Democrats and the whole US would turn into downtown Detroit.

Republicans would be moving to Canada to get some conservatism.

Imagine the far left having no limitations on what they wanted to be legal.

Fingers crossed. Unless the convicts him, seems the best way to guarantee he never holds office again.

This isn’t a normal situation. We are talking about a guy who just got 75 million votes.

It might not splinter much at all, heck it could replace the Republican Party. There are already a small handful of republicans who have been elected who would probably be on board.

The way FOX news ratings have plummeted since they stabbed conservatives in the back, I think is a pretty good sign of this. As conservatives we just can’t trust the old guard. They don’t work for us.

Watching Biden already sending thousands of people to the unemployment line, and well basically everything he has done has made American less than it was just a week ago. I can’t see the mid terms going well for him at this rate.

If there is a splinter party, it won't just replace the Republican party. It could be an independent party separate from the Republican and Democrat parties. Republican and Democrat parties are written into voting and legal language in most places, and it won't get replaced any election soon. However, a splinter party could try to establish itself along with the Republican and Democrat parties, and many independent parties have tried to do so. None of them have had enough success to be accepted on the Federal level in early primaries yet.

A third party could eventually succeed in being included in the voting and legal language that already exists for Republican and Democrat parties, but it's not likely that either the Republican or Democrat parties would be stricken off the voting and legal language and replaced with another party name. Trying to remove and replace would take a lot more legislation and legal changes than simply adding a third party would be. And even with a splinter, there would still be enough Republicans remaining in their party that it isn't likely they would allow their party to be written out of the voting and legal language.

That’s true rashore. Guess really the best we can hope for is a take over of the party.

it would seem this election was mainly people voting for or against Trump- as opposed to democrats specifically. So this could mean a number of votes that went to the Democrats going to the Republicans - ie those who want to vote against Trump would now have two options rather than 1....

who knows how it would play out!

People are so conditioned to the Democrat/Republican dichotomy that they forget there are numerous parties already: List of political parties in the United States - Wikipedia

The American Freedom Party already supports Trump- I am sure he would be welcomed there... :sm

I think, rather then a Trump third party, we need some kind of Centrist party. If there was a strong centrist party, people could vote that as default, and say "screw you" to the far left/right radicals.
