'Gamechanger' drug for treating obesity

Recommended Posts

Eldorado

One third (35%) of people who took a new drug for treating obesity lost more than one-fifth (greater than or equal to 20%) of their total body weight, according to a major global study involving UCL researchers.

The findings from the large-scale international trial, published today in the New England Journal for Medicine, are being hailed as a "gamechanger" for improving the health of people with obesity and could play a major part in helping the UK to reduce the impact of diseases, such as COVID-19.

The drug, semaglutide, works by hijacking the body's own appetite regulating system in the brain leading to reduced hunger and calorie intake.

Peoples general response to this is 'no', but we stopped holding people accountable for their actions a long time ago. I definitely see it's use in patients who need to lose a large amount of weight quickly for a medical procedure. But asking people to put forth effort? Good luck.

Obviously with skyrocketing obesity rates, not everyone has the willpower of a saint like all you perfect people in here. I know I don't.

If this pill actually works, then it is nothing but a good thing for giant fatties everywhere. I'm no giant fatty, but I could stand to lose 30-40 pounds. Fasting works but I can only stand it for so long, this would help a lot
