Stiff Posted February 28, 2021 #3 Share Posted February 28, 2021 Looks kinda 2 dimensional to me. I'm pretty sure the photographer would have spotted that at the time. 5 Top

Mr.United_Nations Posted February 28, 2021 #9 Share Posted February 28, 2021 Yeah and if it was real, the creature would be looking at her, running across but not walking Calm across the road 3 Top

Then sold it to whatever media sources were interested to make a few grand.

Susanc241 Posted February 28, 2021 #12 Share Posted February 28, 2021 It does look like its feet are supported on a thin strip of something, a bit like a card cutout of a character in a toy theatre, where movement is controlled by the bit of thin card. Definitely looks 2D to me as well. Random such figure being held upright by the breeze maybe? 1 Top

quiXilver Posted February 28, 2021 #15 Share Posted February 28, 2021 (edited) Fun pic. Thanks for sharing. It's reminded me that my son and I used to spend hours setting up his figurines in elaborate scenarios. Lots of good memories and some pics to go with them. Think I'll get some out today and set up the living room for a battle. We still have a functional catapult that fires an almond about 12 meters with accuracy. Poor Mrs. Quixilver upon waking... "wtf are those? smokehouse almonds? Again? um... guys? I thought I said this, when using the catapult... raw almonds only. smokehouse almonds are for snacking, not munitions" Edited February 28, 2021 by quiXilver 1 1 Top

Tom1200 Posted February 28, 2021 #20 Share Posted February 28, 2021 (edited) Superlative observation of the month: "It doesn't look like a squirrel, rat, bird or any other kind of animal that I have ever seen before." Not grey, so not a Grey. Not green, so not an LGM. Not black with a red sash and white ruff, so not from Saturn. Too big to be a Jovian sentient mushroom, too solid to be a Jovian gassenvulf. Not Matt Damon, so not a Martian. Conclusion: it's a new species of Mercurian, *snip* Edited February 28, 2021 by Saru Removed derogatory personal remark 1 1 4 Top

bison Posted February 28, 2021 #25 Share Posted February 28, 2021 The resolution appears reasonably good, and the amount of light is fairly subdued. The impression of flatness in the figure, then, is presumably caused by light reflected uniformly by a two dimensional surface. A 3-D object should show stronger light in the areas directly facing the sunlight, and gradually less in areas curving away from it. People are more sophisticated in evaluating images than in the days of the Cottingley Fairies, which apparently fooled even Sir Arthur Conan Doyle! 3 Top
