Adam Smith & Robert Burns to be 'cancelled'?

Recommended Posts

Eldorado

The 'Father of Capitalism' Adam Smith's grave has been included in Edinburgh City Council's 'ludicrously biased' dossier of sites linked to slavery and colonialism.

The Scottish council last year launched a review of Edinburgh's links to slavery and colonialism in response to the Black Lives Matter movement, led by human rights activist Sir Geoff Palmer.

The Slavery and Colonialism Legacy Review Group will consider how monuments and street names linked to 'oppression' could be 're-configured' or potentially removed.

Why don't people realize we can't hold people of the past to modern standards of morality.

Really if we are going to do that then we should ban all famous artist, demolish a while bunch of famous old buildings, and let's not forget all the scientific advancements from people in the past. All these things also used money through whatever methods of the time were.

Who all probably had racist, imperialistic, transphobic, misogynistic, anti LTGB, hated other religions, etc views of some kind.

Because people are products of their time.

Might even want to question those passages in the old testament that allow possession of slaves from foreign lands and other issues we find morally unacceptable today.

So, another dumbing down tactic, erase history so that the next generation of children have no clue instead of discussing history rationally and putting it into perspective.

It may be foolish.  It may not even be a logical or thoughtful conclusion about Adam Smith  but a gut response to the few who claim slavery wasn't all that bad or excuse it because Black people enslaved other Black people. Same with so many issues.

Adam Smith is not the issue but a convenient battleground we fight over about today's social reckoning. .

Forget the stuff that happened in the distant past and tackle the problems of present. Corruption, child and human trafficking, drugs, animal abuse, deforestation, water and air pollution the list goes on and on, when present so many people are suffering why is there no celebrity talking about them, why no media is outraged?

Cant say for rest but deforestation isn’t a problem in Scotland. They’re planting new trees every time I come up. And I think water and air is decent too.

You have to understand. It's not any persons who are being cancelled. It's Western Civilization that's being cancelled.

Yeah getting rid of Robert E Lee statues and looking into who else might be a douchebag who shouldn't have a memorial statue in the public square means we're one step away from everybody wearing a Burkha.

Nobody b****ed when they got rid of Jimmy Saville's statues over in the UK.

Erasing history and destroying cultural past... that's a good way to put authoritarianism in place. They have done it a lots of time in the past, burning books, destroying monuments, etc.

Without references of the past, how can society advance ?

Yes because the entirety of our history is contained within statues of *******s in the public square. Not, say, Museums, Libraries, and other locations people go to learn about history. Look, at a certain point, the good people did isn't outweighed by the bad they did. We give the Founding Fathers a pass because they where flawed individuals who did awful things, but also a lot of good at the same time. But with figures like Robert E Lee and the aforementioned Jimmy Saville thing, most folk have decided that the small amounts of good they did weren't really counterbalanced by the slavery and pedophilia. Just like how we don't have statues of Hitler with the placard reading "CREATOR OF THE AUTOBAHN" in Munich.

The Communist Strategy is about dissolving away all identity, religion, race, culture, and symbols.

A sexless, raceless, nationless, atheist, group of equals, who dont know who they are, who can be merged together into a Communist utopia. People push back against it, so in order to bring it in needs force.

Demonise all that oppose, cancel them all, ostracise them, until power can be seized in a take over, and then they can be locked up and gotten rid off.

Confederate generals, Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Adam Smith and now Mr Potato Head and Dr. Seuss.  When the tide turns back to sanity the blow back against this nonsense will be something to behold.  I look forward to it.

Well book burning will come soon enough at this rate... they are removing books of the shelves.

Yeah, glorification of past wrong doing and bad people is not a good thing but erasing them from history by labelling, is not the good way either... Most past leaders have been rewarded from slavery (Slavery was present everywhere...), most people 200 years ago have done things that are not politically correct by present standard. We can use bulldozer to destroy all ancient cemeteries at this rate... destroying castle in Europe, burning church,  destroy the vatican, level roman and greek ruins.
