Mystery as 'sonic boom' noise shakes homes in south west

Recommended Posts

L.A.T.1961

A sonic boom-type noise has been heard across the south west of England which made homes and windows shake.

People took to social media at about 15:00 GMT to report the "huge bang" that lasted several seconds.

It was heard in the Dorchester and Weymouth areas in Dorset and also Taunton, Bridgwater and Wellington in Somerset and parts of Devon.

A Ministry of Defence spokeswoman said the noise was not believed to be linked to any RAF aircraft.

For comparison - Sonic Booms from Space Shuttle Discovery.

More likely to be echoes ?

Time between booms can indicate size, the first two booms had a reasonable delay between first and second.

So something similar in size to Shuttle or Concorde ?

A meteor caused the mystery 'sonic boom' that was felt across South West England this afternoon, astronomers believe, and it was caught on camera streaking across the sky.

A taxi driver in Jersey caught the meteor entering the Earth’s atmosphere and disintegrating at the same time as residents took to social media after hearing the blast and feeling an accompanying shockwave at around 3pm today.

That was John Brenan and Bigfoot after taking off in their UFO from Stonehenge in pursuit of domestic terrorists, libertarians, and Nazis.
