Victims of UK private school rape culture

Displayed in the windows of the sports hall at James Allen's Girls' School in South London is a montage of posters.  Normally, forthcoming events and activities would be publicised here. But not today.

Instead, covering the front of the building are the testimonies — handwritten in mainly big, pink letters — of young women at the leading private school who say they are victims of 'predatory' boys at neighbouring £44,340-a-year Dulwich College.

They make for uncomfortable reading.

At the end of this week more than 5,800 anonymous testimonials cataloguing acts of sexual harassment, abuse and assault in UK schools have been posted on Everyone’s Invited – and they are still coming.

But, the 22-year-old who set up the campaign in June has said that the focus on fee-paying schools risks minimising the issue, which she warns is happening in schools up and down the UK.

Schools that fail to meet safeguarding standards for pupils could be forced to shut amid concerns over a “rape culture” in educational establishments.

More than 100 schools have been named in harrowing anonymous testimonies on the everyonesinvited.uk website, which was set up to expose misogyny, harassment and assault and has also drawn attention to a lack of redress and support for many victims.

Sky News report

"It breaks my heart that so many women and girls do not feel safe in our country on a daily basis. And let's be honest - these problems are caused by the unacceptable attitudes and behaviours of men," Mr Khan said in a statement.

"I promise to spearhead the change we desperately need to see in the way women and girls are treated in every single part of our society and at all ages," the mayor added.

Will he also 'spearhead' the deportation of members of the asian community convicted of running pedophile grooming gangs who are still walking the streets?

Rape culture isn’t just about rape, it’s about the normalisation of unwanted sexual attention – putting one human’s gratification above another human’s safety and wellbeing.

If these aren’t our boys doing the cat-calling, groping, threatening, drugging, choking, forcing, then whose boys are they?

As for the girls “standing for it”, what bloody choice do they have?

‘A good day to bury bad news’: Tory MP who sent sexually suggestive messages keeps party whip

Rob Roberts asked an intern, who was struggling with mental health, to fool around with him, suggesting it might make her feel better.

News that Rob Roberts will keep the party whip despite sending sexually suggestive messages to a young female intern managed to get drowned out by the noise yesterday following the sad passing of Prince Philip.

The MP for Delyn in north Wales was “strongly rebuked” after he sent the 21-year-old, who was struggling with mental health, suggestive text messages about ‘fooling around’.

Lord Rami Ranger used his maiden speech in the House of Lords last year to advocate for women, telling peers that "empowerment and equality for women everywhere is a necessity".

However, in an "intemperate" phone call, he told a woman who had just complained to him that she was being sexually harassed by one of the senior executives at his Sun Mark firm that he would not "spare her" and criticised her for "arguing with men like a proper quarrelsome woman".

UK Telegraph report

(Lord Ranger's legal team argued that his name, and the names of his firm and several of its executives, should all be kept out of the public domain – partly, they claimed, in order to conceal the identity of the victim.)

Revealed: The scale of sexual harassment and assault at the UK's universities

Katie is a third year student and a talented sportswoman. She expected university to give her freedom and the opportunity to excel at the sport she loves.

Instead, she relied on anti-depressants to get through each day. Every night, she set her alarm an hour early, knowing it would take that time in the morning to work up the courage to leave her house.

More than 80 UK universities have been named on a website where students have been posting about sexual harassment, abuse, misogyny and assault.

Some are mentioned dozens of times on the Everyone's Invited site, including around 50 mentions each for elite universities such as Oxford, Exeter and University College London.

The site has previously highlighted a so-called "rape culture" in schools and more higher education students are now speaking up.

Seventeen UK universities have more than five mentions and 15 of these are Russell Group universities - traditionally among the best in the country.
