The Committee on Standards in Public Life, chaired by a former head of MI5, has privately indicated that it will consider submissions made by the opposition Labour party on Monday following reports in the Financial Times and Sunday Times. The media investigations revealed how Greensill was given an unpaid but influential role at the heart of government years before hiring Cameron as an adviser and using him to lobby senior ministers at the start of the pandemic. Rishi Sunak, the chancellor, revealed on Thursday that Cameron, who was an adviser to the now collapsed finance group, “reached out informally by telephone” to him and fellow Treasury ministers Jesse Norman and John Glen. The revelation came in a letter from Sunak to the shadow chancellor, Anneliese Dodds, as the chancellor tried to clear his name after weeks of claims by Labour that he put Treasury officials under pressure to help Greensill. Cabinet Secretary Simon Case said there was "acute concern" at the top of the civil service about issues that have emerged in the David Cameron lobbying affair. On Tuesday, it was revealed former government chief commercial officer Bill Crother worked as a part-time adviser at Greensill Capital for the last three months he was in Whitehall. The Civil Service has always been seen as the jewel in Britain's Crown- well-educated, decent, loyal. Dominic Cummings rightly deserves condemnation for his role in Brexit and his general distain for anyone in Britain (his Moscow links are well-known, as are Boris Johnson's). When he appeared before that parliamentary committee and was asked to explain his role in placing false NHS leaflets in hospital waiting rooms giving complete lies about the EU- he could hardly hide his distain and boredom- "so What, we lied" was his general demeanour. And when asked to explain why he believed driving a car with a child in it 160 miles was a suitable way to test his eye-sight! This present government are the worst we've had ever, probably, chosen for their allegiance to Brexit rather than competence, and their cronyism and corruption is absolutely brazen. David Brierwood, a former banker at Morgan Stanley, appears to have joined the firm as a director two months after he joined the department as a crown representative in 2014. It comes just days after it emerged that Bill Crothers, the former Government’s former chief commercial officer, had also taken on a role advising Greensill two months before he left the civil service in 2015. The Bank today released a series of emails and letters from the former prime minister, some of which showed senior officials at Threadneedle Street agreeing to phone calls with Cameron and Greensill. The former prime minister introduced the friend, Hugh Warrender, a former hedge fund manager, to the influential Tory “fixer” Andrew Feldman, who at the time was working as a senior adviser at the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC). The former Prime Minister was revealed to have made 4.5 million dollars (£3.25 million) after cashing in shares from the company in 2019, and a salary of roughly one million dollars a year for work as a part-time adviser.
