The @ thingy

I read posts which have links to a person's profile by using the @.

How do I do that?

Type @, then start typing the person's name (don't leave a space) - a list will appear and you select the name from the list.

Note that if you do use it though, the member in question will receive a notification.

I did all that, but somehow it didn't work.

And yes, I know the member in question will receive a notification. That's the reason I want to know how to do it.

Edit:

I never saw a list...

Are you typing the name immediately after the @ sign - no spaces ?

Also, try typing the first couple of letters, then let the list load before continuing.

@Saru

It worked, and I have not the faintest clue why it worked now, and not before when I did exactly the same.

Sigh..

Thanks again.

It disappears sometimes, for no apparent reason, so just start again with the '@'

Well, thanks @acute.

"It disappears sometimes, for no apparent reason."

Did you read that, Saru?

Edit:

As you will have noticed  it didn't work again.

@Abramelin

If you make a spelling mistake, the username you want might disappear off the list, so take your time with it.

You have to select the name from the list, just typing it in plain text won't do anything.

If you haven't nailed it by now, I would give up and redecorate the bathroom instead.

As you can see, Saru, sometimes it works, and sometimes not.

That's only a thing in status updates.

I use FireFox with an ad blocker.

And I use a smartphone, a Samsung Galaxy A01.

Should work fine then, don't know what else to tell you.

Thanks for your help.

And thanks, @acute

And yes, when I was typing acute's name right after the monkey's tail, I got the list.

I love it, this 'twilight zone'.

As Saru said, don't leave a space after the '@' before you start typing the username.

You just have to practice. I practice on @acute all the time because I like to make him, @acute look, especially when @acute is trying to do all the @acute things which @acute does. :yes:

Can you temporarily disable the ad-blocker and try again?

(As you can tell, I'm out of ideas!)

You didn't select the names from the drop-down list.

Ah!!

@acute

Sorry, acute.

Btw, sometimes that drop-down list doesn't show up.

I could, but it works. And sometimes it doesn't.
