UK school staff handing out clothes and food to pupils

School staff have been handing out clothes, food and furnishings to families who have been struggling financially amid the pandemic, teachers have said.

Some children have gone to school with holes in their shoes and without winter coats, while others have been left worried about when they will get their next meal, according to members of the National Education Union (NEU).

A survey of more than 10,000 NEU members suggests the majority (52 per cent) of respondents are working with intakes where more than a fifth are considered to be economically disadvantaged.

They were doing that before the Pandemic .

If only 20% are considered disadvantaged something is badly wrong . The NEU needs to run US style polls to get more extreme  Fake results and better resultant action .

That  figure needs to be at least double  in order to get the public's full support  .One or two kids collapsing in the playground with fake hypothermia ought to do the trick via videos on  social platforms and a Fake  local TV broadcast  that amazingly goes viral .

20% would seem about right.

How many people are in poverty? (UK)

(BHC or AHC = before or after housing costs are deducted)

In 2019/20:

  • 11.7 million people were in relative low income BHC (18% of the population), at a similar level to the year before.
  • 14.5 million were in relative low income AHC (22%), also at a similar level to the year before.

Looking specifically at children:

  • 3.2 million children were in relative low income BHC (23% of children), an increase from the year before.
  • 4.3 million were in relative low income AHC (31%), about the same as the year before.
