Investigating reality and mind

Recommended Posts

Lets grab ourselves a brew and sit the mug on the desk in front of ourselves.

We are going to undertake a simple exercise with it. People can do if for 5 minutes or devote hours to it, its their choice. I want you to ask yourself what you can figure out about the rest of the universe from the mug?

I`ll start you off with three:

1. You can tell that because the mug is in front of you that it exists no where else in reality.

2. You can tell from its design precision a machine exists somewhere that was used to make it.

3. You can tell that a power source exists somewhere else because its contents are hot.

If you were to spend hours, weeks, even months doing it, you can quite literally figure out 1000s of things about the universe from the mug. Now people have no problem undertaking this exercise even if it might seem boring and pointless. But lets look at our minds.

Lets take a thought that keeps appearing in our minds and seek to uncover all we can about the rest of the universe from it. Its a simple exercise, and we can figure out 1000s of things from each thought too if we put the time in.

When we have built up a list we are going to review them for interdependences. Everyone knows what cause and effect is, but there are other forms of causation known to exist such as interdependent origination. That is two things, separated from each other, both require the other to exist at the same time in order to exist. A mug existing in front of you not existing elsewhere in reality is a type of interdependence.

The purpose of the exercise is to reveal to you that your mind is not separate from reality. That the thoughts that arise in your mind share interdependent origination with things elsewhere in reality. A thought exists and something else exists in reality, both have to exist at the same time to enable their own existence. You cannot have one without the other. And it reveals to use how our thoughts create, and why we should manage our thoughts.

Once there read the religious book of your choice (like the Bible). Whether its been put together by super geniuses, or actually dictated by a creator, there is wisdom in there about the way to live your life which works of interdependent origination.

What about what the mug was made out of?   The material is part of the plane we are standing on and sustains life; for now.   Mind creates everything because it all comes from thought.   Humans are creative, but only a certain few can really fulfil their drreams, why?  because another idea from mind moves pieces of paper around.    A piece of paper is stationary until mind moves it.   Basically, it's all mind control.

When you see a computer, car, appliances, anything created, there has to be a mnaual to tell you how it works.  Someone created their own way of doing something so they have to help you understand how to use the device.   A manual is a God send sometimes to show how things work.    The bible is no different.   There are rules to this game we are in, the trouble is no one reads them anymore.

I can think of a few more options.

For example wouldn't a super genius make sure that the text was clear instead of open to all manner of interpretation ?

How could it be any other way?  We don’t need the exercise to understand this point.  Whatever reality is, we are obviously a part of it.

We didn’t create anything from this exercise, except for the thoughts of contemplation.  Yes we should manage our thoughts, and yes our thinking can lead to actions that change reality in some way....but as to our thoughts changing reality?  No.

We may have a thought that we would like to build a bridge.  So, we thought about it.  We designed a bridge, considering the relevant forces, materials needed, methods of construction....etc.  we can think about this for a day or a lifetime, but unless we actually put forth the effort to build the bridge, it will never exist anywhere except for our own minds.

Interesting where I’m from, we call a brew beer, and it’s served cold.  Where you are brew must mean coffee and it’s served hot.
