The US Army wants to regain 'dominance' in the Arctic, and it's looking all over the world for help

In March, the Army became the latest military branch to release an Arctic strategy, titled "Regaining Arctic Dominance," outlining how it will pursue the Defense Department's goal of defending US interests in that increasingly accessible region. The Army is still determining what materials, training, and infrastructure it will need, and officials say it will also need to draw on the knowledge and experience of allies that operate in extreme cold weather, on mountainous terrain, and at high altitudes. US Army Pacific, of which US Army Alaska is part, has directed Andrysiak's command to pursue more training with India, and US Army Alaska will soon assume responsibility for the bilateral exercise Yudh Abhyas.

With sea ice retreating, the possibility of an iceless arctic and it's benefits to places like Russia re ocean trade, this is another intangible of global warming.

The Arctic is now open for business year-round after a large commercial ship sailed the Northern Sea Route from Jiangsu, China, to a Russian gas plant on the Arctic coast, for the first time ever during the month of February, when winter temperatures normally make the icy waterway impassable.

The tanker, owned by Russian maritime shipping company Sovcomflot, was able to make the trip through the Arctic sea ice because it is no longer frozen all winter due to human-induced global warming.

It certainly could be, but I would rather have reverse of global warming than have it continue. Anyway it is wise to strengthen our Northern boarder someone must protect Canada!

It's good to be prepared.

You are certain correct, there is nothing wrong with being prepared, nothing at all.

I had forgotten how far Canada extends.  Up almost north of Greenland.
