Liverpool Blitz: Rare sound recordings of WW2 bombing emerge

Still Waters

Recommended Posts

Rare sound recordings of the devastation caused by the World War Two Blitz in Liverpool have emerged 80 years on.

A BBC sound engineer climbed a watch tower and recorded what he saw

His recordings never reached the airwaves but they were used as an education aid by two history teachers in West Yorkshire who recently offered them to BBC Radio 4.

My mother was a Fire Warden during the bombing in Liverpool. I don't think she ever got over that experience. When I was a child there were still many, many uncleared bomb sites around the city. The remains of St.Luke's church(mentioned in the recording), are still standing.

The good news is that this war will be over in just a couple of hours.  Staggering, isn't it?
