Two women and a 4-year-old girl, believed to be innocent bystanders, were wounded in a shooting at New York's Times Square on Saturday, according to New York police. Multiple witnesses told police that the shooting stemmed from a dispute on the street involving two to four or more males and that during the dispute, at least one person pulled out a gun, Shea said.

The 4-year-old girl from Brooklyn was shot in the leg. A 23-year-old tourist from Rhode Island also was shot in the leg. The third victim is a 43-year-old woman from New Jersey who was shot in the foot. Both women and the little girl were taken to Bellevue Hospital for treatment, according to the Fire Department of New York.

One victim was a 23 yr old woman from Rhode Island and one was a 43 year old woman from New Jersey. None of the wounds are thought to be life threatening. The 4 yr old did have surgery.

I really don't understand the whole defund the police.  Reform, yes,  defend no.  Is this violence really what Democratic Americans want?  Increased shootings, more hate crimes it just saddens me that society is de-evolving into chaos.

I can't speak for all democrats or liberals.  Here is my  view.  Reform is more to the point than defund, but does not get the visceral reaction and attention.  In today's politics, we are not driven by logic and good sense but by anger and visceral hate on both sides.  Voters don't get excited or come out for reform.

. In a lot of towns, community policing seems to have the effect of reducing crime.   That is a close relationship between the police and the people in the community.   Often those folks find themselves doing what we might consider  uncharacteristic of police job descriptions.  But if playing basketball with at risk youth or helping organize community clean up reduces crime, then all the better.  Sometimes mental health specialists are needed  for situations police are not well trained for.  So diversifying the police department with  jobs that we do not call traditional policemen might be a good use of the budget.

On the other hand, armored personnel carriers and military equipment might not be the best use of police funds.  It sends a divisive message to both the police and  the community.   I don't want to put the police or any citizens in my community at risk, I don't think Democratic Americans want that either, they want alternatives to violence.  They don't want law and order at the price of a military police state.

Is that what Republicans want?  I didn't use to believe so since the first 40 years of my life was pretty Republican.

The suspect's name has been made public.

The suspect has been identified as Farrakhan Muhammad. Police said the person of interest in the shooting was first identified by his brother, who was his intended victim.

He was charged in a separate random assault last year and is known to operate as an illegal vendor in the area.

May be an image of 1 person, beard and text that says 'WANTED A SEARCH CONTINUES FOR SUSPECT IN TIMES SQUARE SHOOTING'

And yet, that is where you are heading to allowing all this segregation and violence to end violence .  I can see a military police state because of all the unrest.   Pitting people against each other just because of their skin colour is doing society a disservice.  Should be including everyone and working on a solid, united society.  This is not what the woke agenda is, they are dividing society.  I don't understand why most democrats can't see this.

And what is Tucker Carlson doing when he rants about white replacement?  He certainly does not seem to be promoting harmony or justice. He is stirring fear and anger.  Why don't Republicans see that.  It does not all come from one side.

A shooting in the US? Surely not. Were there not enough good guys with a gun to defend against the bad guys with a gun?

Yes I am being sarcastic.

The suspect has been taken into custody in Florida. He shaved his head and fled with his girlfriend, who has family in the Jacksonville area, after the shooting.

https://abc7ny.com/times-square-shooting-in-nyc-farrakhan-muhammad/10620476/

Detectives retraced his steps through surveillance video to a single room occupancy hotel at 500 West 42nd street, where he changed his clothes and left town with the apparent girlfriend.

While on the run, police say the suspect did alter his appearance by shaving his head.

Law enforcement was reportedly on his tail as he traveled south and he was spotted Tuesday at a Walmart in Fayetteville, North Carolina buying supplies for his girlfriend's two dogs.

It is unclear if the girlfriend will be charged, or if she knew about the shooting.

When you shoot people, run home, change clothes and head to Florida with your girlfriend, shaving your head somewhere along the way, you might be a flight risk. No bail. Good call.
