Popular Post Still Waters Posted May 9, 2021 Popular Post #1 Share Posted May 9, 2021 Wei Wei is a typical seven-year-old boy living in Taiwan. He's a fan of Super Mario, likes sports and once won third place in a track race. In April, he convinced his family he wanted to give judo lessons a try. Just two weeks later, those lessons are the reason he's lying in a coma and likely to remain in a vegetative state even if he survives. A disturbing video has emerged showing him being thrown on a mat by an older classmate during judo practice. As the lesson continues, he is heard screaming "my leg", "my head" and "I don't want it!" but his coach keeps ordering him to stand up and tells the older boy to go on throwing him. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-56967974 Wei Wei is a nickname

Golden Duck Posted May 9, 2021 #3 Share Posted May 9, 2021 (edited) Quote Experts say that Wei Wei's case has brought up disturbing questions that highlight deep-seated problems in Taiwan's attitude towards children and learning. The most glaring one: why did no-one stop the coach? There were adults at the judo studio who witnessed what happened, including Wei Wei's maternal uncle, who reportedly filmed the video to show the little boy's mother that judo may not be suitable for him. Oh god you're right . The CCP is the good guy. A culture that has a problem with leaning towards obeying authority is much worse the a nation that suppress any questioning of the government, like the CCP. If you think Taiwan's culture of obeying authority is a problem than you really should have a huge problem with how the indoctrination and oppression is done in China by the CCP. ((Not saying that what happened in Taiwan isn't a problem, but using it as some talking point about why the CCP isn't bad or something is dumb)) Edited May 9, 2021 by spartan max2

They don't have to be polar opposites. One side does not have to be the good guys if the other side has problems. Do they not both stem for a couple of thousand years of shared culture? They might share similar societal values even if one is communist and one is democracy. Not questioning authority or respecting a teacher might be such a cultural value. Even a bad teacher may get the benefit of the doubt before he is found out.

That's how Falun Daffy became out of control. A couple thousand years of the warrior-religious caste being in control. Think about Lenny Con Dog and his AIM "Pipe Keepers?".

You'll be dealing with them sooner than the rest of us. The term "Sinophobic" is an intentional attempt at misdirection, IMO. Two things... first, I have ZERO hate or fear of the Chinese. My daughter was born in Beijing. Second, and most germane to the discussion, the actions of the CCP are totally independent of the desires and intentions of the Chinese people as a whole. Anyone who uses terminology that assumes the CCP is the voice of the people of China by THEIR choice, is making assumptions without justification. The CCP is keeping Uighur Muslims in concentration camps. They are using them for slave labor, abusing and impregnating many of the females, and generally subjecting them all to "re-education". If you feel the need to defend the CCP, be ready to be called out for defending their evils as well. BTW, that isn't any kind of personal attack against you. It's a stance against your support for the dictatorial government that's in complete control of the Chinese people and the evils that government commits against their own citizens. That's all I have to say on the topic.

That's all I have to say on the topic. Who said I support the Chinese government? That's your imagination. I can lean into Sinophobic conspiracies as good as anyone. My favourite is that our local indigenous are human and, human nature being what it is, have their price. Who can pay for uranium mining rights? The obvious question to your sensitivities is why the Muslim separatists in China are the only separatist group to receive any sympathy from Western media? The answer ostensibly is because they are in China. In that sense Sinophobia hasn't the same potency as Antisemitism - a term politicians are far more comfortable throwing around. It's an even greater irony that, as English speakers, we're not concerned enough about the Abazonian War to even mention it. (Oh, wait.) Falun Dafa have been garnering Sinophobic victimhood for decades now. Legitimate claims for asylum have never been established; and, they remain little more than a cult. The NIMBY attitude seems more natural for some.
