Can you please rephrase this sentence? It offends me. Or are you too cruel to not make a small change? Or could it be that I'm too self important to think i can order you to change what you say because of my personal insecurities?

Sure, how would you like it rephrasing to include you better?

Quote

IMO no one should be compelled to say what they don't want to say

What harm is there in saying "everyone"?

None.

What benefit is there?

Everyone feels included and recognised.

What harm is there in using exclusively gendered terms?

Some people will not feel included and recognised.

What benefit is there in using exclusively gendered terms?

None.

So why would anyone need to be compelled? Unless they just enjoy making people miserable.

No, so why did you bring it up?

You know as well as I do that you were the one bringing up BLM, despite having no relation to the topic.

Now if you want to carry on the trolling I'm happy to just hit report but you must be boring even yourself now.

A laid-back African-American is always reassuring, especially when you're on a potentially-fatal LNER trip.

This is my third and final suggestion:

"Yo, mothers..... S'up!  We go here, we go there, we ridin' the rails. Set yo ass down. We get there, if we get there, when we get there. Ain' no thang."

How hard was it to write that instead of telling me to f off?

Must have taken some mental fortitude

Not...very...at all?

But that's usually the case when speaking from a position supported by logic rather than ingrained prejudice.

No, 'godnodog' is right. We've spawned a generation of narcissts that have been told from an early age that they can be whatever they want & do whatever they want, & they've taken that quite literally & ran with it, to the point where they ignore centuries of science and history, & everybody is supposed to go along with it go down on one knee & show 'respect' like a modern day 'Emperors new clothes.'  example. :-

We have gone through the 'Enlightenment period' & then the 'Renaissance period', and we've thrown all that away and are now living in 'Clown world'

p.s. You say "Asking to be included? Asking people to recognise that you exist?".......'Included' in what exactly? And we know they exist, how could we not, they get people fired for saying the wrong words or thinking the wrong thought, what you really mean is 'ignored' Well normal people are ignored every day, the difference is they don't throw a hissy fit & riot in the streets & smash things up....they just play by the rules and get on with life.

It´s not a question of recognising you exist, its a question of being forced to aknowledge something that does not exist, there are 2 genders thats it! Go ask any anatomy specialist or genetecist.

You are born either a man or a woman, it is what it is (you know that anti-social stuff called evolution). Though in rare cirscunstances you may be born with both sexual organs, its how you define yourself that counts.

You dont see yourself as a man nor a woman its not up to society to cater to you, just make sure you do your best to make sure others can understand how you identify yourself.

You are born as a man and see yourself as a woman, but physically you look and dress like a man, expect to be treated as "Sir", you may feel you have the right to be offended, but I dont have the "obligation" to know that you see yourself as a woman. Just say that you "are a woman", and don´t be offensive to the other part, who despite being respectfull "commited the sin" of an "error", if the other person continues to insist on "Sir" either leave or ask for the complaint book.

I worked in hospitality for over a decade, never once was I offensive to anyone, I had gay people and trnasgender people, for me its all the same..costumers...and human beings.

I have a friend born male and going thrue the process of gender "change", I treated her as a woman because phisically you can see that its a woman. Even before that change I knew he was gay, but only later on did I leaerned that at the time he saw himself as a woman, he was treated as a man because he looked and dresses as a man. Later he started dressing as a woman, along side with long hair, it helped people understand what was going on.

Ah, I see where you're coming from. If you say you're a fan and then I list the reasons why they are such a bad thing . . . . . it could make you look bad.

Actually, I'm not going to spell it out for you, just use your imagination. Just try really hard to imagine you are a 12yr old girl and you have no choice but to use a unisex toilet.

I was a 12 year old girl who used a unisex toilet while vacationing in Europe and I was absolutely fine, a little shocked at first but fine.

And there it is. What it always boils down to. "Let's offend people for the hell of it because I don't like that my prejudices are now being proven wrong".

@godnodog As expected, you conflate sex and gender. Sex is physical anatomy. Gender is a mental and social construct. Ask any psychologist.

Yet you have a problem addressing the people in the op as they have asked to be addressed.

Is it that you'll only do it for friends?

Or is it because they don't fit into your binary prejudices?

A woman in jeans and a t shirt or a man with long hair must confuse the hell out of you...

Yes, I'm sure that's exactly what the train announcer was thinking when he said 'Ladies & gentlemen, boys & girls'

well I am glad you can always read mind, care to enlighten the rest of us, morons, how you became a gender mind reader?

and I am not confusing sex with gender, you may have been born with a penis (male) and see yourself as a female. U have no problem with that, but unless you show clear signs that you want to be identified as a woman, you either look like a woman or say it, otherwise you'll be treated as a man, cause I can't read minds.

What's to read? You clearly stated what you think. And it is outdated and, objectively, false.

and I am not confusing sex with gender,

You clearly are or you would not have said to ask an anatomist.

Why would you ask an anatomist about a social construct?

Are you joking or are you being serious? This made me LOL!  Perhaps people should have discreet little labels on their jackets, to help people like you 'understand what is going on'.

So you are willing to give me that power over your speech? Anything I find offensive to dismiss or derail your posts, you will accommodate my deliberately obtrusive demands?

Seems like a ***** move to me. Have a backbone. You disagree with my opinion as I do yours. Offence is never given, only taken. Dont let your political opponents dictate or control your speech by claiming offense.

yeah go tell that to all of those who lost their jobs because of crappy attitudes from a small fraction of man who looked and behave like a man (or woman) but out of nowhere starts screaming at you, because you didn't treated them as madam from the very beginning

again you want to be treated in a certain way (sir or madam) you better make sure people understand that you look what you want to be.

yes sometimes a friken label is needed.

We literally have rules built into this forum to handle if someone says something offensive. They're demonstrated right there in your post.

And if you personally find something I say offensive (which is not the same as disagreeing), of course I want you to tell me!

Is it really such a strange concept to you that someone would want to avoid giving offence? Do you really see that as a weakness?

Sounds like a rather sad world view.

All this gender silliness is getting out of hand.

Next we wont be able to call ourselves humans for fear of upsetting cats and dogs.

Because its not really about offense its about control. I'm very surprised that you would let other peoples feelings (often not based on facts) control your speech

And if anyone finds anything I say offensive please go cry to your mother.

When I bought a phone recently, a young person with trousers and baggy sweatshirt, short hair, earrings and a nose ring, asked me a question and I replied "that's okay mate". I had a moment of real panic thinking I might have offended a young lady. I'm still not sure.

If it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then... we still have not the faintest clue what it could be.
