+ouija ouija Posted May 18, 2021 #5 Share Posted May 18, 2021 It's a sea dragon! It's just a spine and some tail fins, I wonder what happened to it's head. Amazing how the bones just went to dust when they were touched.
HandsomeGorilla Posted May 18, 2021 #6 Share Posted May 18, 2021 Probably a really old whale skeleton. Hasn't been down there long enough to fossilize, just turn very brittle, hence the porosity of the bones Really cool, wonder if it's an extinct species? I'd assume so

Tatetopa Posted May 18, 2021 #10 Share Posted May 18, 2021 Probably not too ancient since bottom marine life tends to burrow through and eat remains on the ocean floor. From the disintegration when the claw tries to pick one up, it doesn't look like it will be around much longer. If it did have 3 spines on each vertebrae, it could have landed on its back and one is buried in the sediment or consumed.

But whale sharks have cartilage instead of bone, would it have lasted this long? It definitely looks like the spine of a massive shark but doesnt have the ridges of a whale shark. Definitely not whale either. My vote is for oarfish. Maybe paeleaophis if you want to get exotic. Even though it really does look like it came from the biggest great white ever. Oil and gas ROVs are not gigantic. Google “subsea rov” or “oceanearing rov”. https://www.oceaneering.com/rov-services/rov-systems/ ive seen them operate. Likely what a lot of you all are saying- whale/shark. Edited May 20, 2021 by Nobu
