Still Waters Posted May 20, 2021 #1 Share Posted May 20, 2021 Microsoft's Internet Explorer will finally be retired next year after more than 26 years of service, the tech giant says. The veteran web browser was released with Windows 95. It will no longer appear on consumer versions of Windows 10 after June 2022, Microsoft wrote in a blog. The tech giant has been phasing out the old browser for several years - but in 2019 it had to issue an emergency patch for it, for security reasons. At that point it was estimated that around 8% of people were still using it. Its replacement, Microsoft Edge, has an Internet Explorer compatibility mode, which will continue to function. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-57186266 3
+Desertrat56 Posted May 20, 2021 #2 Share Posted May 20, 2021 Yep for security reasons is the best reason to retire it.

AlienMary Posted May 27, 2021 #4 Share Posted May 27, 2021 I hardly ever used it. I prefer Firefox.
Scholar4Truth Posted May 27, 2021 #5 Share Posted May 27, 2021 I downloaded it a few months ago. I don't have to worry about loading issues as much.
Still Waters Posted June 12, 2022 Author #6 Share Posted June 12, 2022 This month marks the end of an era as Microsoft continues with its plans to phase out Internet Explorer. Any 90s kids out there will have fond memories of the web browser during the early days of the internet – or World Wide Web, as it was first known back then. Having launched in 1995, it was once the most used web browser, reaching its peak in 2003 with around 95% usage share. However, with the rise of competitive services like Apple's Safari and Google's Chrome, the tech giant has slowly been phasing out its classic service replacing it with Microsoft Edge, said to feature improved security, privacy and speed. As such, from next Wednesday, 15 June, Internet Explorer 11 – the last major version of the browser – will no longer be supported for devices operating on Windows 10 20H2 and later. https://www.unilad.co.uk/technology/microsoft-shutting-down-internet-explorer-20220611
+Desertrat56 Posted June 12, 2022 #7 Share Posted June 12, 2022 When it comes down to it, Microsoft cannot compete unless they pay to have their OS installed on as many different hardware systems as possible.

Microsoft pays no one to use windows--it's the other way around. That's how they make their money. They do support and offer free updates for their OS users. Occupational Hubris Posted June 13, 2022 #9 Share Posted June 13, 2022 I have to use IE to access some deviecs at work that are so old they're not complatible with updated Chrome, firefox, edge. I'd never use it, given the choice. Edge is even worse and it sucks at everything it tries to do.
