Murder mystery as mother, son of prominent Irish family in SC found dead

I was shocked when Alex admitted yesterday that he was at the kennels when Paul made the video and he lied to police for a year and a half. That was about 4 minutes before Paul and his mother was shot. He conveniently left in those 4 minutes? Why do I think he was still there?

Man accused of calling in bomb threat during Alex Murdaugh trial

Wonder if it was the killers that made that threat ?

Hi Docy

I doubt it, the fellow that add the threat was in jail and if there were other killers it’s not likely they want to draw attention to themselves. All that happened was court was disrupted for a few hours while checking the courtroom. It may have been a ploy by Murdaugh or it was just a prank by the guy they know made the call which was stupid because the prisoner that owned the phone got found out and has lost his illegal hotline to the outside.

Murdaugh was found guilty of all charges. After 3 hours of deliberation, the jury found him guilty of murdering his wife and his son. South Carolina moves fast. Sentencing is tomorrow from what I'm hearing.

If South Carolina moved fast, this would never have happened in the first place, because they would have investigated the first murder(s) connected to this family back in the 1980s.

The only reason South Carolina is “moving fast” now, is because the state got caught red-handed looking the other way for generations.

It’s a good day for justice in South Carolina, but only because a pretty, young, blonde woman was thrown out of a boat, and that got national attention.

I haven't followed the thread, but followed the case and know the family's and law firm's dirt but I don't know if anyone said this yet.

Junior was a derelict. Mommy was his enabler and they both held his fraud over his head until he couldn't take anymore.

I'm glad they found him guilty.

I can't post links Susie but there is a article on the Cato Institute  website called 'A crime bigger than the Murdaugh Murders'

It pretty much says everything I knew from the beginning.

Please post it.

Unless I’m mistaken, I didn’t see Alec’s remaining son sitting in the audience for the verdict.

I think the motive could have been related to his wife and dead son, hiding his drugs. You can imagine on the day when he was fired from his job, he likely needed his drugs, and they were taken from him by Paul and Maggie, as we have heard, they were known to do. This time, they likely paid with their lives.

Murdaugh handed two life sentences

Alex Murdaugh has been sentenced to two life sentences without parole for the murders of his son Paul and wife Margaret.

This is the maximum term, but it is worth noting again that the prosecution did not pursue the death penalty in this case.

These sentences will run consecutively, Judge Clifton Newman says.

Murdaugh had little obvious reaction as he effectively learned he would almost certainly spend the rest of his life behind bars, giving a barely discernable nod of acceptance.

Alex was there. but when he called 911, why didn't the law check out the two guns that killed Maggy and Paul and Alex had gun powder on him ?

I think that move was the correct call by the prosecution, because it was a circumstantial case, and they wisely didn’t want to risk a jury member, feeling compelled to find a reasonable doubt, if they thought Alec was going to be put to death.

The sad truth here, is that this family got away with so much for so long, and nobody lifted a finger to help the poor, powerless members of society in this community.

South Carolina will never live this generational stain, down, but I feel like the judge and jury, lifted everyone up, and I commend them, along with the prosecution. The judge impressed me more than just about any human being I have ever seen. He was amazing.

There is always hope, when good people stand up for justice, and this is what distinguishes the United States from many other countries. We can all be proud of that.

Teen’s Body To Be Exhumed In Wake Of Alex Murdaugh Murders, Family SaysHuffPost    3-19-2023

Stephen Smith's mother hopes that an independent autopsy on her late son will shed more information into his mysterious 2015 death.

“SLED has made progress in the death investigation of Stephen Smith,” the agency said. “However this investigation remains active and ongoing.”

Smith was found lying in a road on July 8, 2015, with blunt force trauma to his head. He was approximately three miles from his car, which was found abandoned with its gas tank open, authorities said at the time.

There is no check and balance, sometimes, except when the Power of Heaven intervenes.

South Carolina sometimes brags that it has more churches per square mile than any other state in the union, and yet we see what likely amounts to a modern day lynching, like this.

I have seen fear recently, in the eyes of some of South Carolina's law enforcement. If this fear is of the Power of Heaven; then we're going to be Ok, because that kind of fear is the beginning of wisdom, and healing.

Stephen Smith's body was exhumed and re-autopsied this weekend.

https://www.cnn.com/2023/04/03/us/stephen-smith-death-south-carolina-exhumation/index.html

South Carolina Law Enforcement Division said last month it was investigating Smith’s death as a homicide based on information gleaned in 2021 during its investigation into the deaths of Maggie and Paul Murdaugh. The agency did not say what that information was, and there has been no connection announced between Smith’s death and the Murdaugh family.

“I now believe that Stephen can really rest at ease because SLED and our team are going to do everything possible to find out just how he died,” Bland said.

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/renewed-interest-murdaugh-trial-body-south-carolina-teen-stephen-smith-rcna77943

The Smith family’s search for answers was energized in June 2021 in the weeks after the fatal shootings of Murdaugh's wife, Margaret, 52, and their younger son, Paul, 22, at their estate in Colleton County.

SLED agents had announced that their investigation into the slayings had prompted reviews into other deaths in the area and that had some connection with the Murdaughs, a powerful family in the coastal area of South Carolina known as the Lowcountry.

The agency said it was opening an inquiry into Smith’s death in 2021“based upon information gathered during the course of the double murder investigation.”

Interesting …

The most interesting thing is the destruction of the iPad.

If the owner of the store where Paul purchased the illegal liquor, hired two investigators, who then destroyed the iPad, there must be a reason.

Since they were looking for dirt on the Murdaugh family, perhaps the iPad contained some evidence exonerating them.

My guess is, the iPad contained details about Stephen’s side hustle, as an escort, perhaps? if so, then it would be a dead end, according to this ex DEA agent, because SLED found no evidence of a connection to the escort business. These liquor store owner investigators, likely would not have been aware of this.

The other item of great interest is the blood at the scene, which the ex DEA agent says pointed to an injury, very near, or at the location where the body was found. I find this very credible, but it still doesn’t explain the manner of death more likely being non-vehicular.

My thinking now is, this could have been a scheme to collect insurance money, that perhaps went bad, and that’s the reason why SLED was taking a second look at it. The mere fact that Randy Murdaugh shows up at the scene, would be reason enough for that.

As a result of this excellent interview, my thinking now is, the Murdaugh family had no motive to murder Stephen, unless it was for money, and right now there’s zero evidence to support that.

I now suspect the real reason the corner’s report, as well as the police report might have been skewed towards a vehicular accident, was simply to support a potential wrongful death insurance claim by the Murdaugh family law firm.
