That has nothing to do with the title of your thread. The point of my post was very clear, if you compare the wording of those songs there is no comparison which makes the title of your thread ridiculous. That's all I was saying, nothing more, and no there is not a thin edge here. So your use of history doesnt change anything, its only a diversion away from my original comments.

I'm not referring to a literal translation. It is a metaphor.

It is a national socialist song, relating just England (Scotland, Wales and NI were not consulted)  mouthed by children to subtly convey the nationalist message.

It is part of a larger picture.(I'm using picture as a metaphor, it is not an actual painting).

It may be popular with the Brexiters but not with the media.

Even the right wing Telegraph questions it's appropriateness and the Telegraph is rarely seen other than in the rear end of the Tory government:

But the song has struck the wrong chord with many, with some comparing it to state-led propaganda.

Whilst it may be well-meaning, many schools in Scotland will be closed because the summer holidays start on Monday, June 27.

And in Northern Ireland the British branding is unlikely to go down well because Britain encompasses England, Scotland and Wales, whilst Great Britain and Northern Ireland constitutes the United Kingdom.

The idea has also been derided by one of the Conservative Party's own MPs, Caroline Nokes.

The MP for Romsey and Southampton North retweeted a preview of the OBON song saying: "I can't unhear this (however fervently I wish I could)".

My friend we will have to agree to disagree, because the song you posted is designed to create unity. The German National Anthem Deutschland Uber Alles is designed to place Germans above the entire world and all people. So while the song you posted may be a little weird in your opinion the intent is totally different man!!

My friend we will have to agree to disagree- we'll do that.

In my mind the song is intended to create national unity, but like all things this government has done, has been done without consultation with the other nations, and will harden divisions as most people do not want to be united under these charlatans and scoundrels.

It is a token attempt to patch over what is happening to the UK.

Indeed.   A unity between all the peoples of diverse race who live in (and have been welcomed to live in) Britain - so, in fact, the complete antithesis of Nazi Germany's "One Nation, One People" racism.

I understand the point of the song.  But given the reaction, it needs some serious PR!

I assume this is the push-back to all the left wing woke divisive nonsense we have had to endure since BLM started smashing things up, in which case I'm all for it, obviously it won't be popular amongst the Islington Twitteratti  & London bubble types where any display of patriotism is to be discouraged (unless it's any other country of course).

We (the UK public) need to wake up to what is going on:

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out— because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

It is a dam shame that people have to try and make something negative when it is obvious positive. This behavior sucks in any country, but negative forces will always attack anything that is positive in nature. I made an addition of a quote, if you don't like it please remove the thank you you gave me.

One Britain One Nation founder Kash Singh defends event

“It’s about everybody having this strong shared sense of belonging. It’s about everybody feeling part of this great country.

“We’ve got to eliminate hate and discrimination any time, and that was at the forefront of my mind when I set this organisation up.

“I thought, ‘let’s bring out the best in our people, let our people showcase their passion, pride and love for this great nation, because it’s out there’.

National Unity of all our citizens helps immigrants feel accepted, gives them a sense of belonging and safety, and might well even reduce terrorism.

For those we have accepted its our job to help them get along or it causes problems.

The song is fine but there is no need to re invent the wheel.

He, like all of us, is harking back to a United Kingdom before the growth of populism, before the Brexit Party became a threat to the Tories, before decency was eroded by the manipulation of the media by the likes of Cummings and Cambridge Analytica.

The first thing we have to eliminate is the Johnson government, then the rest will follow.

Thats correct, its not a National Socialist Song but it should be mentioned that Heinrich von Fallersleben (1798-1874), the author of the song, was a well known Anti-Semite, despiser of democracy, nationalist and hater of France. Thats why I never listen to our national anthem and I`m not the only one here who would like to have it changed. Hell, its fun-country here and we need to cut off all the old&smelly traditions.

Woah, I think we have been talking about different things! Is 'Ein Reich, Ein Volk, Ein Fuhrer’ Nazi propaganda or not? I thought it was.

I really understand where you are coming from my friend, the title of this thread just kind of set me off. Germany is a great country, with wonderful people, like you said some of the old smelly traditions should go away part of the past should only be left to the history books, because it no longer applies.

Peace.

I think your choice of words and your comparison is more than a little ridiculous. This is the Natiinal Anthem my mother and father lived under and worked under before immigrating to the United States. There is no comparison to the positive movement in the video you provided and the video I am providing of the German National Anthem is the original version used under Nazi Germnay. The video has English subtitles so that all the forum none German Speakers can read the words!

Oh and by the way this version of Germanys National Anthem is banned in Germany today. There is an updated version that is accepted. The trick here is they overlaid the original National Anthem over a new video to try and disguise it, tricky little devils aren't they!

@toast in the realility I think the German Nation Anthem is a Beautiful Song, it was just written for the wrong reason and with the wrong intent. I heard this song as a young child, and if it were written under different circumstances the ad version some fell toward it today would not exist.

This thread just kinda set me off, the British movement depicted in the song in this threads OP is actually positive but, some people must take the positive to a negative place. The negative will always try and destroy the positive just like this thread depicts. Comparing the movement in the threads OP to the rise of the Third Reich is nothing but foolish and my opinion regrettable because there is no comparison at all.

Peace my brother.

I think he has convinced himself that Brexit is the rise of Germanys political persuasion from the 1930s and 1940s, but in Britain.

So is seeing everything through Nazi tinted sunglasses! Even worse he lives here so should know better lol.

Interesting observation MW. Probably true that it was designed to do so. But consider that the UK includes 4 countries - Britain only 3 of them (sometimes 4 depending on which government paper one reads) So maybe you're in, maybe your not.

“OBON is devoted to galvanising the efforts of people from all backgrounds to rejoice in their pride in Great Britain.”  - from the OBON website.

However, GB definitely excludes Northern Ireland, so the intention of the song is the 3 nations., is the populace of GB being subtly  readied for the break up of the Union?

How does "one Britain one nation" engender Unity across the UK or how does that encourage unity between the 4 nations when it probably excludes one of the 4 UK nations? In fact contrary to government 'Unity' intentions in supporting the song - its likely to have the very opposite effect on nationalists in Scotland and NI who will view it as English centric dribble.

I see your point and your right I was not aware of that at all. But, still to call OBON a Hilter Youth Brigade, of a Nazi organization isn't right either. Hopefully a unified position can be found, it seems like the problems you described are hundreds of years old, man that's a long time with no positive resolution.

Peace Dude.

I dont see ted comparing the movement directly to a possible New Third Reich development but I agree with him that the involvement of little young kids into something like nation related is a very dangerous thing because the kids get used as a tool of propaganda. And it is a kind irresponsibility by the initiators who abuse the kids for something they dont understand based on their age, they become marionettes which will might lead to brain washed minds later on. And yes, such procedure was performed by the nazis very professional as well and as known, with horrific success. It started with flag waving/fun/sports/campfire and ended sitting on a AA gun or in basements under fire in Berlin in 1945. And those who survived have remained nazis or had to ask themself the rest of their lives: "what have they done to me?". Two options but with the very same result: a somehow ruined life.
