Flying car completes test flight between airports

A prototype flying car has completed a 35-minute flight between international airports in Nitra and Bratislava, Slovakia.

The hybrid car-aircraft, AirCar, is equipped with a BMW engine and runs on regular petrol-pump fuel.

Its creator, Prof Stefan Klein, said it could fly about 1,000km (600 miles), at a height of 8,200ft (2,500m), and had clocked up 40 hours in the air so far.

It takes two minutes and 15 seconds to transform from car into aircraft.

This story reminded me of an ad I saw on youtube a couple of days ago. a startup company that has designed and is making vertical rising flying cars.

If the day actually arrives when this kind of transportation is a reality it will be so heavily regulated that only the wealthy will be able to afford it.

IIRC correctly, the idea of flying cars is >100 years old. Again and again companies arise/d with protopypes and looking for invstment capital to bring the units to the markets. They all failed because this kind of transportation has no future and never will have. Too expensive, to much regulations in various countries, no practical use and no perfect properties on the road or in the air.

Flying car wins airworthiness certification

A flying car capable of hitting speeds over 100mph (160kmh) and altitudes above 8,000ft (2,500m) has been issued with a certificate of airworthiness by the Slovak Transport Authority.

The hybrid car-aircraft, AirCar, is equipped with a BMW engine and runs on regular petrol-pump fuel.

It takes two minutes and 15 seconds to transform from car into aircraft.

The certification followed 70 hours of flight testing and more than 200 take-offs and landings, the company said.

"AirCar certification opens the door for mass production of very efficient flying cars," its creator, Prof Stefan Klein, said.
