jethrofloyd Posted July 8, 2021 #1 Share Posted July 8, 2021 Measuring 7x7cm, Head of a Bear is more than 500 years old. The sale could surpass the previous record for a da Vinci drawing, set by the Horse and Rider in 2001. According to Christie's auction house, holding the sale, it is among just a few drawings by the Italian Renaissance master which are still privately owned. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-57735318

Still Waters Posted July 8, 2021 #5 Share Posted July 8, 2021 It didn't sell for as much as they expected. Quote Head of a bear sets new record for a drawing by Leonardo da Vinci, selling on a single bid for £8.8m at Christie's A study of a bear's head by Leonardo da Vinci has sold for a record £7.5m (£8.8m with fees) at Christie's in London today. It was estimated to make £8m to £12m ($11.2m to $16.9m) but was hammered down under that estimate, to a single bid from a man and woman in the saleroom. https://www.theartnewspaper.com/news/leonardo-da-vinci-s-portrait-of-a-bear-sells 1

Seti42 Posted July 10, 2021 #8 Share Posted July 10, 2021 Honestly, I wish these rich people would buy tons of art made by living (and broke) artists. It'd really help some actual people out, elevate real working artists, and help the economy in general. Anything by someone like da Vinci should be in a museum.
