Popular Post Still Waters Posted July 8, 2021 Popular Post #1 Share Posted July 8, 2021 A school has won a court battle, allowing it to use electric shock devices on students. The Judge Rotenberg Educational Center in Massachusetts, US, reportedly introduced the controversial practice to deal with aggressive or self-harming behaviour in adults and children. The US Food and Drug Administration had previously banned the use of such devices, however, a 2-1 ruling by the US Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit saw the ban overturned. According to the school's website, it caters for 'both emotionally disturbed students with conduct, behaviour, emotional, and/or psychiatric problems, as well as those with intellectual disabilities or on the autism spectrum'. Parents and guardians of pupils, as well as the school itself, are said to be pleased with the ruling. https://www.ladbible.com/news/news-school-wins-legal-battle-to-electric-shock-children-20210708 Quote A federal appeals court has overturned the Food and Drug Administration's ban on the use of electric shock devices to correct aggressive or self-harming behavior in adults and children at a Massachusetts school for the developmentally disabled. https://www.reuters.com/legal/litigation/dc-circuit-overturns-fda-ban-shock-device-disabled-students-2021-07-06/ 2 2 2

Popular Post +Desertrat56 Posted July 8, 2021 Popular Post #3 Share Posted July 8, 2021 My daughter quit her PHD program in Behavioral psychology because of that practice. I would never let my autistic grandson near a school like that.

TashaMarie Posted July 8, 2021 #6 Share Posted July 8, 2021 Do the children have medicals prior to having the devices permanently attached to them? Do the staff have to keep records of how often they shock the children? I'm sorry bit I cannot see how this is allowed and not seen as abuse.

From the article - The devices work remotely, administering a powerful shock to the wearer's skin and are reportedly worn 24 hours a day.
+OverSword Posted July 8, 2021 #10 Share Posted July 8, 2021 (edited) Sent the article to a friend. Her response: Quote I found a video online of them shocking a kid. They’re completely restrained on a table. Just disgusting. Sounds like 1930's sanitarium crap. How in the eF did this get overturned? What's next? Waterboarding the autistic? +ouija ouija Posted July 8, 2021 #12 Share Posted July 8, 2021 The more I think about this the more difficult I find it to comprehend. This is the 21st century, for goodness' sake! Why are the parents supporting this? Do they feel better in themselves because if a child 'needs' this violent 'treatment' then obviously their behaviour was beyond any help the parents could give? The parents can justify sending them away to the school.
