UFO speed calculated by scientist

'Advanced technology' Scientist calculates how fast UFOs filmed by US Navy really are

Alien or not, UFOs are zipping around in our skies and the US government has acknowledged as much. On June 25, the US Pentagon published the findings of its investigation into more than 100 unidentified aerial phenomena or UAPs - military jargon for UFOs. Many of these UFO sightings were made by US military personnel and have been leaked to the internet over the years.

One such sighting saw the light of day in 2016 and was only acknowledged by the Pentagon last year.

The video appeared to show US Navy pilots chasing down a "strange craft" off the US East Coast.

A pilot can be heard in the video yelling out: "What the **** is that thing?"

11,800 mph.  Pretty fast.  The SR 71 had a top speed of 2,193 mph by comparison.

.....and we have no way of knowing their top speed.

What a load of clickbait bull****.

No workings or assumptions were given for the calculation, other than wild-ass guesses.  He just handwaves that it could be going at 11,800 mph??  How did he get 3 figures of accuracy?  Where is the actual list of DoD provided assumptions / data from which that number arose?  Error ranges?

Hint - NOWHERE.  Nowhere in the article, nor in the link.

What a f-ing waste of time.  This is almost the perfect example of GIGO - Garbage In equals Garbage Out.

BTW, here's a quote from the provided sample 'calculation'.

Quote

Step 1: Pick Tic Tac from the shape option.
Step 2: Select the engines to power your design. Let's choose the GE F414-400 (Fun fact: The current version of F/A-18F uses these engines).
Step 3: Choose the number of engines. Let's set it to two.
Step 4: Select the number of passengers. Say you are bringing a friend along, so, two.
Step 5: Kudos! You have entered all the necessary design inputs. The calculator will return the speed of this aircraft, i.e., 1473 km/h in this case.

:no::td:

Does that look like they used any of the data / imagery / FLIR parameters?  Does this idiot actually have a clue about how real analysis works?

Added:

And, the article states:

Quote

Armed with a single engine of unknown origin, the spacecraft could hit speeds of more than 11,800mph.

Yeah, like wow.

And if it was a paper dart fitted with a similar unknown made up pretend engine that only weighs 8 grams... even faster...  omigawd.

Seriously, this is utter tripe.

So did he present his calculations?

"The UFO stood out for its bizarre flight patterns, "glowing aura" and seeming disregard for the laws of physics."

The author knows it's in infrared and the camera is moving right?
