Eldorado Posted July 19, 2021 #1 Share Posted July 19, 2021 Since September 1943 the fate of the crew of the No. 11 Squadron Catalina A24-50 has remained unknown in what the Australian War Memorial called ‘The Mystery of the Black Cat’ – in reference to the matte black paint the aircraft sported for concealment on night-time operations over Japanese-held territory in the Pacific. While all on board have long since been declared dead, they fate of the airmen and their flying boat remained a mystery, with no wreckage or bodies ever found, and no indication from Japanese war records of the time indicating they were ever captured, imprisoned or executed.
