Underground fridge keeps you cool in summer

Recommended Posts

Still Waters

The heatwave that's hit the UK this week doesn't look like it's going away anytime soon, with Brits doing all that they can to keep cool.

One thing you might not have thought of is The GroundFridge, a brand new giant underground cooler with a 3,000-litre storage capacity, enough to keep at least two adults away from the sun.

Oh my, those things aren't meant for storing live humans. Groundfridge is one of the nicest prefab units to hit the market in the last few years though.

The Ice House

The first known examples were found in China where remains of ‘ice pits’ were excavated from around the 7th century BC. These were used for preserving fruit and fresh foods and even corpses. Written evidence may suggest however that the Chinese used them as far back as 1100 BC.

Well, if fridge could protect Indiana Jones against radiation .... then it can certainly help you in summer.

I wish I would have bought an import container 2 years ago when I could have purchased one for $2000 delivered to my house.

Now they are around 3 times that cost.   Still not a bad idea if you have the equipment to dig a hole and put some drainage gravel in.
