Maybe it isn't valued as much these days and a majority would prefer a more rapid transport for their businesses but to me it seems like one more landmark or waypoint being taken way that used to anchor us to our culture and history.  A people that have no past will have no sense of a future.

I did joke about this happening in another thread. But truth appears to be stranger than fiction.

You might think hiding a road underground as apposed to its current visible position would be though an improvement and a costly one at £1.7 billion.

Having made one prediction I will have a go at another. 

The great wall of China will be struck off the list after the massive infrastructure projects carried out in the country over the last 30 yrs.

Huge numbers of new roads, power stations, dams, airports and city's have destroyed the natural environment surrounding the Wall. 

I am sure Mr Tian Xuejun is looking into it.

Its strange you should mention that, ancient Britons were alleged to call it stellae hircum.

Not a lot of people know that.

I notice the US pulled out of this organization as it was seen as too political. Although it was Trump who pulled the plug so will be thought an irrational action. 

But Joe has yet to reverse the decision as far as I am aware.

I would be more inclined to think its China wanting some global leverage, they now make big contributions to this body. 

Not as it will make much difference. UK will still challenge China's activities.

There will be no tunnel.

A victory for the environmentalists, while those needing to move between the South East and South West have to sit in a traffic queue. 

The anti car lobby say "It should look again at its roads programme and take action to reduce road traffic and eliminate any need to build new and wider roads that threaten the environment as well as our cultural heritage."

This is while a restriction of lorry drivers, trucks on the road, illustrates the affects on supplies of food and other goods needed for the UK to operate. 

But they are seemingly oblivious to what happens to supplies when the number of vehicles on the road is reduced. 

I vote that they run out of loo rolls and white wine first.

Stonehenge tunnel plans continue despite high court ruling

Highways England has said it is proceeding with plans to dig a tunnel near Stonehenge, despite the £1.7bn scheme being declared unlawful by the high court.

The government-owned company said it would continue to appoint building contracts to ensure the procurement process ran to schedule – although it has paused plans for preparatory work while the Department for Transport “considers its options”.

If the UK government doesn't protect a heritage site with that much significance, none of the rest will matter, either, in time.
