More children in channel crossings

Migrants ALL claim they're children so they will get better rooms and education after crossing the channel and being put up in a seaside hotel in Kent

Each of the illegal migrants being housed in a hotel on the Kent coast are understood to have told officials they are under the age of 18.

Reports last week revealed that all 43 rooms at the Stade Court Hotel in Hythe have been booked by the Home Office until September to accommodate arrivals crossing the Channel from France.

NHS staff carried out Covid-19 checks at the hotel yesterday as migrants who had ended their quarantine period walked to the nearby beach.

Each of the illegal migrants being housed in a hotel on the Kent coast are understood to have told officials they are under the age of 18.

Almost 1,200 migrants arrived by boat last week, bringing the number of migrants who have crossed the Channel to the UK this year to more than 8,900.

This is true, and is not a new problem, it’s been an issue going back to the early 2000’s.

Essentially if a migrant claims they are under 18, the immigration process gets tied up for months with age assessments, Red Cross intervention looking for family that may or may not exist somewhere in the world.

Essentially once a migrant makes the claim of a minor, they then fall under the children’s act 1989 and must be taken into the care of whichever local authority they are in.

But the article goes into the bigger issue, which is of course France, and ultimately the EU.  The U.K. is throwing money at France to sort their security from northern ports, but these migrants are travelling the Length of the EU to get to France unchecked.  There is no political will in the EU to stop this and impose border inspections internally, once they are out of the EU they are someone else’s problem.

It's not EU's fault that you apparently can't control your own borders.

And it's not EU's problem what you'll do with your migrants.

You are trying to shift the blame on the EU, for your own refusal to cooperate with your neighbours and your own inability to control your border. "Throwing money" around obviously won't motivate anyone to serve your interests alone, even if it was true you're so insanely generous. (By the way, lol.)

Don't mind Helen, she doesn't realise that all the UK's problems are caused by the EU.

It was bad enough when we were members but now they are making things even worse.

Foreigners! They've always been a nuisance to us!

Money has been paid for France border improvements for years. Previously it was for migrant camps surrounding Euro tunnel and dangerous attempts to board HGV's while they were trying to board ferry's.

Probably the better solution would have been to spend the money taking back Calais from French control, there has been so much spent we must own it by now  Think of it as UK securing its single market, the idea does sound familiar :tu: and putting border control there.

UK would then be spending money on its own territory, just like Gibraltar.

https://tudorhistory.org/glossaries/c/calais.html

Instead the money appears to go to the French navy who spend the day escorting migrant boats into UK territorial waters and then disappearing due to migrants threatening to jump off their own boats.

I am not sure why the UK needs to indirectly fund this.

These migrants cross multiple boarders to arrive in France.  Why aren’t they picked up at the first border, or the second?  Or the Third?

Is it because the EU doesn’t control its own borders?  Is it because the EU would prefer these migrants elsewhere?

Lets be clear, if these migrants were travelling through the U.K. and coming into the EU, they would spitting feathers, threatening sanctions.  These migrants are coming to the U.K. FROM THE EU, why is the EU not dealing with them on its soil?  How are they managing to get boats from within THE EU?  Why is the EU not able to police the trafficking gangs that are clearly a criminal element from within THE EU?  Why should the U.K. be paying the EU to do what it should be doing anyway?

The EU knows the U.K. cannot prevent these boats from arriving without putting lives at risk, which we won’t do.  The EU does not have the moral high ground here, it’s failing in policing its own borders to the south, it’s failing to provide an adequate housing or standard of living when they arrive, it’s failing, to keep track of the migrants after they enter, and it’s failing to prevent them from putting themselves in danger.

Spare a thought for Kareem. Only 15 years old, many months spent in France and the pitiless Channel crossing have prematurely aged him:

Migrants who end up in the UK are obviously heading to the UK. Otherwise, they wouldn't keep on going through a number of borders until they reach your island.

Another thing that is not EU's fault - for some reason you're migrant magnet. It's your problem why and what you're intending to do or don't do about it. Since you're not in the EU anymore, it's not up to EU to distribute your migrants across the EU.

Every EU country and the EU as a whole is doing a lot against trafficking and illegal border crossing, but that, what UK thinks about it is irrelevant. Your ingenious idea that someone else should be policing your borders is another source of morbid amusement.

And they are doing it through multiple EU territories.  If the U.K. found immigrants in a lorry and those immigrants said they wanted to get to Germany, it is not in the UK’s gift to then let them carry on to Germany and simply state it’s Germany’s fault for being so enticing to immigrants.  That perspective is not realistic and frankly childish.  They are within our borders and will be dealt with here, why is the same not true for the EU?

Yes it is!  What do you not understand they are IN THE EU.  They are the EU’s problem, just because they want to get to the U.K. doesn’t mean the EU has an international responsibility to get them there.

I would like to emigrate to New Zealand, doesn’t mean New Zealand has a responsibility to facilitate my travel there.

Is it really?  And what the U.K. thinks is of course relevant, saying otherwise is just silly.

Nope, they should begin policing their own first, and when the EU manages that, then perhaps we will take advice on our own borders.  History goes some way to demonstrating how secure the borders are.

The UK opted out of the Dublin agreement, so we no longer can insist asylum seekers need to return to the first European country they entered.

Also, it is worth bearing in mind that asylum seeking is not illegal, it is preventing people seeking asylum that is illegal.

Since leaving the EU, the UK is accepting 3x as many asylum seekers than it did as a member, we are just 7 months out of the EU and the figure is already around 1k per month, by next summer it may be many multiples higher. It makes leaving the EU to "control our borders " look a bit silly.

Tbh, I don't know why the EU doesn't just let asylum seekers straight through and let the UK deal with them- the UK has accepted far less numbers than other European countries up to now, perhaps it is the UK's turn.

Yes, if the French authorities and EU did their job and didn't facilitate this sort of thing then that would never have happened. And it will keep happening as long as they and the EU turn a blind eye.

Albanian criminals charging up to £20,000 to smuggle migrants to the UK brazenly tout their services on TikTok and other social media sites.

A Mail investigation found popular sites awash with adverts from human traffickers, sometimes mocking attempts by the British authorities to stop them and posting slickly produced step-by-step tutorials to help illegal migrants sneak into the UK.

They illustrate the scale of the problem facing Home Secretary Priti Patel, who recently visited Albania to sign a deal speeding up deportations of criminals and failed asylum seekers.

Which funny meme would that be? The picture I posted on this topic was from a news feed about channel crossings by migrants. Patently things must be pretty bad in the EU at the moment for the migrants to be willing to make the dangerous journey across the channel rather than stay in Europe, what other explanation can there be?

Yes, that's exactly why Africans and Asians are crossing the channel. Not because traffickers are offering your country as a destination (something you should think about why, instead of blaming the EU for magically creating migrants just to spite you), not because migrants already have a family member in your country, not because your border seems to be the crappiest at the moment, it's because the EU is on the verge of hunger.

Now, if you're going to be "funny" with posting a photo of a boat full of blackest adult people you could find (photographed probably at Italian coast), implying these are the children among migrants into the UK - then grow a pair and defend your "humorous" racism and cruelty. Don't just blow that racist dog whistle and then claim you didn't, while the ****ing thing is still clearly in your mouth.

And if you wonder why your childish behaviour makes me so furious, it's because you're accidentally white by outer appearance and it gets on my nerves when the worst among my race are the loudest, building a stereotype of whites as dumb, selfish, cowardly and disingenuous people.

I've been googling why people want to bypass other European countries and head straight to the UK.

It seems to me there are 3 main reasons: they have relatives already here, they can already speak the language, and conditions in the UK are better than in other countries (while their claims are processed).

All of these reasons make sense.

Given that the UK is so short of workers at the moment, I don't know why the UK does not make it easier for them.

Priti Patel says she thinks the channel crossing by inflatable is dangerous, and people smugglers make huge profits. Why doesn't the UK allow safer methods for the asylum seekers? This would take away the profit incentive for the smugglers and enable the immigrant's asylum applications to be processed in a more orderly way.

It can't make things worse, and there is no law against seeking asylum anyway.

The majority of people in the UK are very much against Priti Patel and Nigel Farage's war on asylum seekers. We realise it is a media scare to keep people divided and focused on "them".

They are the reason why there is so much poverty and inequality in the country, those people coming to the UK, stealing our jobs, taking our houses, eating our food.. As long as people believe everything is the fault of immigrants, they will not realise that the gross inequality in the UK is the UK's fault, not foreigners.

Just this last year, to give an example of a high-profile figure, at a time when everyone should have been pulling together because of Covid and layoffs, our PM took a 3 week holiday in Mustique which cost £15,000 ( that he admitted to, others have said it cost more like £35k, and at a time when he should have been chairing COBRA meetings to deal with the pandemic), he and g/f Carrie spent £28,000 on take away meals over an 8 month period for the two of them (the average earnings for a family) and he spent £200,000 redecorating his flat in No 10.

At the same time the government is planning to reduce poorer families benefits by £20 per week  (the biggest cut in benefits since WW2).

As long as the government can keep people focused on those people, coming over here, stealing our jobs, causing us hardship, they can keep getting away with robbing the UK blind.

Here is an interesting article:

The real threat to the UK isn’t asylum seekers, it’s the far right

The government’s Nationality and Borders Bill is as flawed as it is inhumane. It’s a clear signal that the UK government is more than willing to turn its back on some of the most vulnerable people on Earth, hitting a new low with the risk of criminalising even RNLI lifeboats saving people from drowning in the Channel.

A less publicised area of the bill focuses significantly on asylum accommodation centres, suggesting an expansion of their use and a move away from community accommodation. But as well as inhibiting integration, and the fact that institutional accommodation for asylum seekers has been so squalid they’ve been found unlawful, these proposals pose a significant terror risk from the far right.

Last year, a shortage of accommodation and compliance with Covid restrictions saw the Home Office become reliant on housing asylum seekers in contingency accommodation, using hotels, B&Bs and disused barracks. Almost immediately, the far-right seized on this to reignite their bored and fractured groups. We saw the rise of so-called “citizen journalists”, a group of activists joined by organised far-right groups like Britain First, who filmed the beaches of the south coast and “hunted” arriving migrants and asylum seekers.

Far-right extremism remains the UK’s fastest-growing terror threat. In this light, the very real threat posed by the far-right against asylum accommodation, and the increased risk with the proposed move from community accommodation to accommodation centres, should be taken seriously as an active terror threat. At the height of Europe’s “refugee crisis” during 2015-16, the German organisation Pro Asyl counted 126 arson attacks on refugee accommodation – one every three days.
