Why beer mats do not fly in a straight line

Recommended Posts

Still Waters

Anyone who has ever failed to throw a beer mat into a hat should take note: physicists at the University of Bonn have discovered why this task is so difficult. However, their study also suggests how to significantly increase accuracy and range. The results are being publishing in the European Physical Journal Plus.

Beer mats protect tables from unsightly condensation rings. However, they are sometimes also misused as projectiles. Usually with little success: after just a short time, the cardboard coaster leaves its path, spins off to the side, and falls to the ground. But why is that so?

Oh you are supposed to through them, oops. I lick my knuckles and stick the coaster to my fist for 2 reasons

1 it works like a silencer

2  distraction, it takes a while for others to realize it wasn't a trick:innocent::whistle:

They are not to protect the table.  They keep the place where you put your arm dry.

I never drink without 'em.

I wonder if my mousepad would fly in a straight line if I throw it away?

Pointless comment. If you had read and understood the article you would had recognized that the study was a work of a professor and his students. Thats how we train our future scientist and I, as a German, support this and with my tax money as well. Do you pay taxes in Germany? No?  So whats your problem?
