Still Waters Posted July 28, 2021 #1 Share Posted July 28, 2021 Four years is a long time in robotics, especially so for a bipedal robot developed at Oregon State University (OSU) named Cassie. Dreamt up as an agile machine to carry packages from delivery vans to doorsteps, Cassie has recently developed an ability to run, something its developers have now shown off by having it complete what they say is the first 5-km (3.1-mi) jog by a bipedal robot. https://newatlas.com/robotics/cassie-bipedal-robot-machine-learning-5km-run/ 3

acute Posted July 28, 2021 #3 Share Posted July 28, 2021 If they didn't waste so much time trying to make robots look humanoid(ish), we would all have personal robot butlers by now.

Silver Posted July 28, 2021 #10 Share Posted July 28, 2021 How cool would it be if they were armed and acted as security guards! Imagine having a few patrolling a housing estate- no arguing, if you didn't have aright to be there, goodbye! 1

I think that once it stops looking creepy, it will have become dangerous to human beings. The reason "Big Dog" isn't still in use by the military is that it was just too loud to be effective in the field. Imagine swarms of insect-sized drones with C-4 incorporated that track your cell phone... yep...
