Still Waters Posted July 31, 2021 #1 Share Posted July 31, 2021 Mark Zuckerberg wants to reinvent Facebook. He has been telling analysts and journalists that he wants the company to lead the way to a completely different internet. He said: In the coming years, I expect people will transition from seeing us primarily as a social media company to seeing us as a metaverse company … In many ways the metaverse is the ultimate expression of social technology. So what does the Facebook chief executive mean by “metaverse company”? And what will the company look like if and when it gets there? https://theconversation.com/mark-zuckerberg-wants-to-turn-facebook-into-a-metaverse-company-what-does-that-mean-165404 Related:
+ouija ouija Posted July 31, 2021 #2 Share Posted July 31, 2021 Oh dear God! It's just a way to make money by inventing and selling more and more devices to the gullible public who feel they can't live without them .

Gromdor Posted August 2, 2021 #4 Share Posted August 2, 2021 I see this coming. PokemonGo is an early example where the real world and the digital world start to overlap. In the future I can envision a doctor looking at a patient and being able to see their medical records and have a digital overlay highlight their ailments for example. People going into a digital 3D room for a business meeting with people all over the world (like Zoom but with VR). Cops walking down the street and seeing people highlighted in red indicating arrest warrants.

We had conference rooms set up at some of our large plants in 2012 at the behest of GE, one of our biggest customers. They had cameras, speakers, a large interactive pad on the table and a touch screen. We could hold engineering meetings and go over prints and changes real time. Way before covid, but it saved some traveling and expense. We used them for all kinds of interplant meetings and presentations too. It was primitive 2D of course, but that was nearly a decade ago.
