Sky News Australia banned from YouTube for seven days over Covid misinformation

Sky News Australia has been banned from uploading content to YouTube for seven days after violating its medical misinformation policies by posting numerous videos which denied the existence of Covid-19 or encouraged people to use hydroxychloroquine or ivermectin.

The ban was imposed by the digital giant on Thursday afternoon, the day after the Daily Telegraph ended Alan Jones’s regular column amid controversy about his Covid-19 commentary which included calling the New South Wales chief health officer Kerry Chant a village idiot on his Sky News program.

YouTube has not disclosed which Sky News program the videos were from but said there were “numerous” offending videos which have now been removed.

Great thread, and hopefully situations like this will become more frequent and the norm.

Sky News Australia is quite right wing.

I suspect someone has gone hunting through all their YouTube content desperately looking for things to complain about. I suspect after the 7 day ban then they will zero in on all its anti-LGBT content and ban them again. For those who dont know, its presenters often mock them on live air. Along with immigrants, and everything else that would wind wokes up into a frenzy.

CT BS. There is no drug with the name Ivermextin but there is Ivermectin. It isnt "banned" but not approved as a C19 treatment for good reasons.

Merck Statement on Ivermectin use During the COVID-19 Pandemic

KENILWORTH, N.J., Feb. 4, 2021 – Merck (NYSE: MRK), known as MSD outside the United States and Canada, today affirmed its position regarding use of ivermectin during the COVID-19 pandemic. Company scientists continue to carefully examine the findings of all available and emerging studies of ivermectin for the treatment of COVID-19 for evidence of efficacy and safety. It is important to note that, to-date, our analysis has identified:

  • No scientific basis for a potential therapeutic effect against COVID-19 from pre-clinical studies;
  • No meaningful evidence for clinical activity or clinical efficacy in patients with COVID-19 disease, and;
  • A concerning lack of safety data in the majority of studies.

We do not believe that the data available support the safety and efficacy of ivermectin beyond the doses and populations indicated in the regulatory agency-approved prescribing information.

I dont really agree with YouTube acting as the moral authority over what it allows and bans.

Lets face it, if it banned everything that wasn`t proven or correct it would have to take down billions of videos on every topic going. Its a conspiracy theorists paradise on every topic, and from every view point.

Or maybe the editor was tired of letters about Jones' last column.

From COVID to Climate Change to Australian Rugby he always seems to be about as wrong as anyone could be.

YouTube is just protecting their stash, nobody says "on sky news YouTube"

They just say "I saw/heard/know from YouTube™ "

Nah...  Paul Barry from MediaWatch has been regularly going after Jones and Sky.  Sky, in turn, regularly go after the ABC.  I don't think it's a coincidence that Ray Hadley, from 2GB, has targeted Jones, he gets dropped from one Murdoch rag, and then YouTube follows the crowd.

Communications watchdog’s role in question as Sky News Australia cops YouTube suspension

...

ACMA said it had received 23 complaints about Sky’s coverage of the COVID-19 pandemic since the beginning of 2020, including seven relating to a July 12 segment on the Alan Jones program featuring Jones and federal MP Craig Kelly.

An ACMA spokesman said it had referred the complaints onto Sky and was “monitoring Sky’s response to ongoing community concerns about its coverage” as well as whether the current code of practice provisions and the way they are managed by broadcasters are adequate.

Is Sport Rorts forgotten?  Has Fletcher given ministerial direction that the ACMA should be pro ScoMo?

Your 1st comment about a typo reflects who you are.

As for Merck saying no efficacy when it's use has been proven in real time use to quell covid.. it's amazing how the low cost, low margin ivermectin is now deemed ineffective just as Merck are winning contracts to produce other (more lucrative) shots for other drug companies.

Nothing to see here.

Don't let results get in the way of profits.

statins,

they are natural part of red yeast rice, yet merck greases some gears with fda, and now manufacturers of red yeast rice must remove all statins from it. while merck uses natural ingredient for  their statin meds, with 10000% mark up price,

Funny in the way that the only time you hear about Theta Grunberg is when Jonesie's replaying her talking.  Then the cash for comments and climate change denier criticises a lifestyle of consumerism.

It might be funny in the same Dave Chappelle says he'll say anything and that he's dying done commercials for Coke and Pepsi.

It may even be funny in the way he escaped fine over cash for comments by the skin of his ... and the head of the ABA, David Flint, went out the back-door after the end of the whole affair.
