We have the other thread in the media asking peple what their favourite anime is, but would any one else other than me like a thread which discussed anime news and events as well, rather than just favourite shows?

Well, lets see an anime news thread will get anywhere

After years of speculation, director James Cameron has stated, in no uncertain terms during an interview on NPR, that he will begin directing a feature film adaptation of Yukito Kishiro's "Battle Angel" (Gunnm) manga series, apparently, this summer. The film will feature a fully CG rendered protagonist and the film itself will be filmed in 3-D.

According to an advertisement in the Japanese Shonen Weekly Magazine, the CLAMP manga series Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle will be released as an anime motion picture next year.

I am soooo happy, I just read in New Type USA that the director of the new Oh My Goddess TV sries after he finishes it is going to go onto another Pretty Sammy Project. PS is as far as I'm concerned on of the mst under valued titles ever... well.... I like it. I just pray they don't do something stupid and decide to drop Misao Amano as a main character, her being the best one in its.

Today has seen some important news emerge from perhaps the largest anime fansub portal, AnimeSuki. Japan-based producer Media Factory Inc. have requested that AnimeSuki remove links to several of their anime series (which include the popular Gankutsuou and Kimi ga Nozomu Eien).

Typically, Japanese anime producers have turned a blind eye to fansubs (because strictly speaking, they are illegal)- preferring to let them aid in building up a sizable reputation for their work outside of Japan. Fansub distribution is only usually halted once an English speaking nation picks up the respective official distribution rights.

This move by Media Factory Inc. has left anime fans questioning whether or not this could be the beginning of the end for the fansub community- will other Japan-based anime producers follow suit and also request a halt to their distribution?

After yesterday's news that Media Factory Inc. requested a halt to all distribution of their fan-subbed anime, it has been widely assumed this move was in reaction to a fan-subbed version of their Akane Maniax OVA hitting the fansub circuit a few days before the official Japanese DVD release.

Also, in reaction this news, several fansub groups have decided to drop Media Factory Inc. produced anime while others are planning continue their work under the basis that many of Media Factory's series are yet to be licensed for a R1 DVD release.

UK news

UK based DVD distributors ILC Prime have announced the name of their new anime label - 'Animazing' and the first anime DVD release lined up for this new label is The Humanoid. Created in 1986, little is known about this anime except that it is 45 minutes long and will be released by Animazing on the 31st of January.

Their other scheduled DVD releases are Masamune Shirow's (the original creator of Ghost in the Shell) Dominion Tank Police Vol #1 & #2 and La Blue Girl Returns Vol #1 & #2 (hentai)- all of which are expected to hit the UK on 21st March. DVD releases for Project AKO and MD Geist are also expected, but are currently unscheduled.

In case you're wondering why ep. 7 of Full Metal Alchemist was thought to be cut, here is an episode summary. Highlight to read, as I don't want to spoil it for anyone.

Ed is tossed his pocket watch certifying his status as a State Alchemist by Roy Mustang and taken back to Tucker's house. On his way home, Ed learns that Mustang is busy trying to solve a case where the serial murderer only kills women. Arriving at Tucker's house, Ed shows off his pocket watch to Al and Nina only to have it taken away by Alexander. At dinner, Ed and Al discover that Tucker is struggling to keep his State Alchemist title because he did not receive high marks during last year's assessment. Ed and Al encourage Tucker to recreate the talking chimera but his seems disturbed when the topic is brought up. After dinner, Ed and Al head back to their room and are joined by Nina a short while later. There they learn that Nina's mother left Tucker because she felt that he was a good-for-nothing. In the morning, Ed finds that Tucker had burned the picture Nina had drawn of her mother, her father, and herself. Befuddled, Ed heads to the library where he discovers that Tucker's report on the chimera has been classified. On his way out, he stops a man with a heavily tattooed arm. Next, Ed heads to Hughes's house to ask for information but does not get much information. However, Ed is startled to learn that Tucker's wife died shortly before his coming to Central. Ed and Hughes are interrupted by a phone call informing them that the serial killer has struck again making it the fifth one so far. At the scene, Ed passes out when he sees the body of the woman which cause him to have flashbacks of his mother and his failed attempt to bring her back. Shortly after waking up, Ed and Al are met by Basque Gran and asked to leave Tucker's house because of the nature of his research. With only two days left, Tucker must create something groundbreaking that will allow him to keep his lifestyle. Having returned to Tucker's house, Ed and Al head to the basement where Tucker has recreated a talking chimera using Nina and their dog, Alexander. They also learn that he used his own wife to create his first chimera. The two brothers also find out how twisted Tucker's mind has become. Infuriated by Tucker's disregard for human life, Ed punches Tucker repeatedly until he is stopped by Nina and Alexander. A few moments later, Gran enters and arrests Tucker and commandeers the chimera. Told to keep the events that happened at Tucker's house a secret, Ed retaliates by overturning the truck holding the chimera. Escaping, the chimera instinctively seeks out the man with the heavily tattooed arm. He frees Nina and Alexander in a blinding flash of red, un-doubtingly alchemy. Soon after, Ed finds the blood-stained wall of the chimera. Understanding why his brother gave him such an arm, the man walks off into the city.

In other words, it was a disturbing, sad episode, sort of touchy. I even cried a little after seeing it.

Summary from fullmetal-alchemist.com

And as of 12/26/04, my avatar/sig banner is of the Chimera in this episode.

Yeah, I too wish that there will be an anime channel of some sort here (in Israel).

Anyhow, just watched End of Evangelion again, so I'm totally depressed sad.gif.

Darn, how can an anime be soooo goood as Neon Genesis Evangelion. Anno is a genious.

EDIT: well, in a striking coincidence, the satellite company announced today that in two weeks they will open an anime channel. The problem is that I have digital cables, which are just as good as the satellite company, but doesn't have any plans regarding anime channel. disgust.gif
