I'm not saying all these are bad.  Most could operate just fine whether under a socialist or a capitalist system.

What is the big difference between the US economy and most others:  the last time our infrastructure was destroyed by war was 1865.  Most other countries have had to rebuild their economies multiple times since then.

Your mistake is assuming that what we have is a government which supports a free market   What we have, as you basically observe is a government that props businesses up that should fail and that licenses small monopolies.  This model, like socialism, is not supported by Friedman.

Glad to hear that.  But one word on free markets:  there is no such thing.  Somebody always controls the market, whether business for its own profit or government for the public good.

I looked hard for similar pictures taken in Norway, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, etc.  Couldn't find a one taken since 1945 when the Germans left.  Why do you suppose that is?

Norway, Finland, Sweden, Denmark.  Those are not socialist countries.  They are democracies with some social programs  but are in fact among the closest thing to free market societies on the planet today.

Bernie promotes Scandinavia as the model for his Socialist platform. However, the “Nordic Model” does not reflect Bernie’s tax-the-rich scheme (the 1% and the billionaires). The “Nordic Model” has a very high tax rate that is a disproportionate burden on the people who make the least. The brand of tax-the-rich Socialism Bernie promotes is the kind of socialism they have in Venezuela. Thats par-for-the-course for Sanders the schmuck. He stopped referring to the “1%” and switched to saying it’s “billionaires” who need to pay more taxes because someone smarter than him crunched the numbers and discovered Bernie “500K-summer-home” Sanders was part of the “1%” himself.

But, of course, there are still people that think right wing media is lying out their patooties despite the people who have been killed or beaten within an inch of their lives. Not to mention the trustworthy members of UM who have seen it up close and personal.

All I know is when I moved to the Portland area in 1999, it was clean, there was less crime, and there were never any riots, that I knew of. Of course it was run by Democrats then, but moderate Democrats. Today every road us lined with trash, regardless of if there are tents or not. The far left is running the city into the ground. "Racist" people who don't want trash everywhere, and drunks pooping in their yards, are moving out. Place will be like Detroit eventually, with areas of urban wilderness where no one lives or works.

I'm not sure what the fix is, but I think a move back toward moderates running the city just might help.

If this had been Portland, they would have been throwing bricks, or frozen water bottles. And they'd go outside Elders known work/home and start fires and pile up debris to block doors.
