Quote

Avowed socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) prompted accusations of hypocrisy when she attended the 2021 Met Gala on Monday wearing an ultra-fancy designer dress with the message “Tax the Rich” emblazoned across the back.

The Met Gala is an entirely exclusive event attended by pop stars, actors, musicians, and scores of millionaire famous people with an estimated ticket costing $35,000 on an invitation-only basis. Noted The Cut:

It’s big money and a lot of celebrities. Even if you can afford a $35,000 ticket, you have to be approved by Wintour and placed by Vogue at a table. The seating chart is normally drafted in December, a full five months before. They take into account where people and their exes are sitting, and who can see whom, and place everyone individually.

The excuse or reasoning will be that someone else paid for her ticket, the designer loaned her the gown, and she gave her leftovers to someone in her district that sleeps in the streets :tu:

Well that is perfect.  Someone with principles.  Even when she became mysteriously rich, she stuck to her principles that the rich should be taxed just like the rest of us and she wasn't afraid to show her beliefs to her rich friends and hob-nobbers.  Now if she had showed up with a dress that said "don't tax the rich" I would wonder who was paying for her dinner..

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez reported a net worth of between $29,500, and negative $19,000, last year.  That doesn't sound particularly wealthy to me. She probably does have some generous friends. Many wealthy people believe that the well- to-do should pay more in taxes than is currently required.

Just to keep it real, and I'm not trying to disrespect what you said because I admire some of her principals as well, she's probably among the more honest elected federal officials, but trump too said he thought the rich should pay more taxes.

Man, reality is so Baby Boomer and such a buzzkill. As soon as a few more of us die off, people won't even remember what reality was.  It will go the way of powder blue and lime green leisure suits.

I don't disagree.   However she is dumber than a box of rocks.

I disagree.  She knows exactly what she's doing to propel herself by gaslighting at every opportunity.  She constantly plays victim when ever called out on her outrageous comments or unrealistic ideas such as the GND.

I have no idea what that word means, so I’ll rebut with “quinton”.

People who are on the guest list do not pay to attend. AOC was invited (NY elected officials are regularly invited to attend the event).

She did not have to dish out $35K for a ticket.

It's all subjective.  If your parents were boomers then you're fine counting yourself as GenX.

If one is going to that kind of dinner, an expensive outfit MAY be necessary.  And there MAY be political reasons for going to it.  But if it were me, I'd make my political point by NOT going to it.

Same person that said her 174,000 dollar a year salary wasn't enough and that she needed a raise.

Have you ever seen how much things cost in DC?  My God!  We could save a bundle in taxes by moving the govt to western Kansas and paying everybody half as much.

Remember??? LMAO,  some can not see reality that is in front of their eyes right now,  but do not worry, history will be rewritten and your gen will be known as racists and oppressor.

I’d make it with a Cartier brooch, encrusted with diamonds spelling out “tax the rich” because there’s a thin line between satire and hypocrisy ;)
