Americans die younger than Europeans

Recommended Posts

Eldorado

Americans die younger than Europeans. That is true whether they are rich or poor, black or white, toddlers or OAPs. The latest confirmation of the mortality gap across the Atlantic comes from a newly published study that tracked death rates in the United States and Europe over the past 30 years.

The paper sets out to compare the changing gap in mortality rates of black and white Americans over time, using Europe as an external benchmark. (The paper combines data from six countries – England, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway and Spain.)

In so doing, it provides lessons, not just for America but for European nations too, not least Britain.

Hi Eldorado

I am inclined to think that the US has a higher infectious lead poisoning incidents than Europeans, other than that they likely would have lived longer.

this is true, but the numbers are still creeping up on our friends across the pond

the most noticeable change has been a trending towards the new American lifestyle, which is you stop at a fast food restaurant for coffee and whatever else ****ty food, work, eat take out, come home, forget about cooking...let's just do pizza or more Chinese food or burgers

awful Standard American Diet is creeping into Europe and the rest of the world

I put it down to the lack of free healthcare in the States.

Surely, it's a human right. There's nothing more important than your health.

Health care costs are much lower inEurope, allowing people to see their doctors and nutrition specialists.

Europe also has plenty of relatively cheap fresh food like vegetables available at every corner shop, and for what I've read it's not always the case in the US so feel free to correct me on this, either not being available or for being too expensive or both

Lastly Europe has different life style and better cuisene in general (not talking about taste, but quality of products), far less sugary foods and drinks (I have no idea what mountain dew or dr.pepper tastes like).

On the other hand fast food like Macdonald's and Telepizza are always busy, but so was most restaurants before Covfefe, only relatively recently have they began having take out or delivery services.

The impression I get is:

US has lack of healthcare

Over reliance of meds where healthcare is available

Dangerous animals in abundance

Sugary food

Fresh food is expensive

A dine out culture

Lack of holiday time

Guns widely available

Extreme weather

Weird chemical **** in your food chain

Too little red wine

If true

It all adds up to shorter lives

Nah.  The trouble with young people today is the absence of large predators.:-*
