If the painting was produced over several days then it might be down to the movement of equipment or subjects from day to day ?

The artist may have had no knowledge, or worried about, how this could affect perspective or perplex those conducting more modern analysis.

It is good, I remember watching a documentary on this many years ago and it was assumed an optical system had been used.

This allowed an almost photo realistic effect to be produced in parts of the painting.
