Mainland Europe is experiencing an estimated 400,000 lorry driver shortage as port closures across China and the Far East during the Covid pandemic have sparked a global supply chain crisis.

Not exactly kneejerk is it now?

You've been desperately looking for the slightest modicum of redemption since you left the site with tail firmly between your legs in 2016

Wouldn't want the small matter of factual information, such as the driver shortage being Europe-wide, to get in the way of your delusional celebrations now though would we? :tu:

What is it with you Br?

Ego? Was it crushed so badly after the referendum that you're going to spend the rest of your life bawling?

Militant leftism? Regale us with your virtue on matters such as race and the environment, all the while taking perverse pleasure in others' misery when they don't conform to your own narrow world view?

This one's just speculation, but might as well have a little fun... champagne socialism? Comfortable middle class lifestyle in a lovely part of the Irish countryside, guffawing over a glass of wine with your comrades while sniffing at those uneducated working class English Brexiteers?

All of the above?

Come on Br, take a seat on the couch and tell your uncle LV why you're so angry

I left at least in part because I couldn't stand the sanctimonious drivel of Brexiters like yourself. Everything I said at the time has come to pass, just quicker than anticipated.
Nice to be right. I will probably be off again soon as there's only so much fun to be had kicking a man when he's down.

POLITICO puts Remainers on the couch — it’s not pretty.

Visit any middle-class gathering this summer and even the vaguest hint of Brexit sympathy is likely to elicit a swift and angry response. "It's broken the social contract," one senior City lawyer told this author over wine one evening, in a broadside aimed squarely at those who voted for Brexit. "We paid all the taxes which propped them up. Now they've gone and *****d us. So, **** them. We'll be fine, but they're screwed."

For Britain’s pro-European middle classes, Brexit is akin to a psychological trauma which has left many unable to behave rationally, according to two leading experts. Far from being hyper-rational observers concerned only with what is economically sensible, many have morphed into the "Remainiacs" of Brexiteer disdain.

They are acting no differently to what psychologists would expect from those suffering from chronic anxiety caused by loss of control and insecurity, Dr. Philip Corr, professor of psychology and behavioral economics at the University of London, and Dr. Simon Stuart, a clinical psychologist, told POLITICO.

According to Corr and Stuart, this emotional response is “standard psychological stuff." To find solace and some level of security amid the disorder, Remainers are following a well-trodden path to polarized group think, dismissing their social "inferiors" who voted for Brexit as stupid, racist and easily misled.

If this is the case why still feel the need to defend the EU while trying to suggest every issue is down to brexit.

You sound like a Covid denier, covid has no effect on anything in UK, and take no interest in what's going on in your chosen home the EU. Especially if its not supporting an anti-brexit argument.

Not sure what your blinkers cost but they are very good. ;)

Do you have any links? It isn't reported in the UK, which is odd, because if it was true our government would be shouting it from the rooftops.

There are dozens of ships at anchor off two ports  in Cali that can't unload on schedule due to lack of trucking to move the stuff out of warehouses.  Local shortages have been ongoing throughout the spring and summer for the same reason.  I think I'd know when it's going on around me.

Not everywhere.  Most of my middle class friends voted to leave the EU.

Estimated lorry driver shortage didn't cause any disruptions in supply chain in any other European country, only in the UK.

It's not some inexplicable magic at work, it's your stupid Brexit having the exact consequences that the sane people were telling you about.

That is a consequence of Covid lockdowns ending and the economy opening up- the same in all industrialised nations including the UK.

We have the handicap in the UK that our government policies are exacerbating the problems.

Dont tell them that, they wont be able to blame Brexit lol.

As corona comes to an end our economies are rallying way too fast, just like they plummeted off a cliff. So the need for truck drivers is increasing faster than what they can be employed. This might clip the heights of every ones corona rebounds. We need to get the military in to make up the shortfall of drivers in the short-term.

I`m interested in knowing how you can look at the lorry driver shortage map of Europe and conclude the driver shortage in the UK is down to Brexit.

Its obviously not reasoning based on any kind of known logic. What is Cornelius logic? 2 + 2 = 5?

Well I`m amazed you didnt mention Brexit.

The lorry driver shortage is planet wide, and rather than be critical of the UK Government ask what can the Government actually do? There is no short-term solution. We cannot steal another countries truck drivers as a solution in the short-term because it takes time to attract them in.

The only solution I can see is using the military to drive the trucks while companies recruitment.

No. other. country. had. their. supply. chain. disrupted.

Twist it, spin it, the fact remains only the UK can't get goods, petrol included, to the customers.

The reason why foreign (mainly Eastern European) drivers won't be back is the bizarre Brexiter combo of nationalistic hostility and libertarian crap - Brexiters mistakenly think people elsewhere are so desperate they'll agree to come back to be spat upon and work for inadequate wages in uncertain and chaotic environment. They won't.

Yes it made me change my citizenship and driving license and I know of lots of people who can state the same, including two of my brothers who live in England.
I also stopped buying things from the UK, along with just about everyone I know.

Grocery store shelves are running low, construction materials have gone up four fold with at least a six month wait. Welding shops are repairing parts because no one can give you and answer on new supplies to run industries. Auto parts stores are almost empty. Six to eight month wait time on new appliances or furniture.

On the bright side we seem to have plenty of gas and the liquor stores are full. Various beers are unavailable but there is still a wide selection.

Seriously, how many times do the FACTS need to be presented?

Europe’s road freight market short of more than 400,000 drivers

Poland are top of the list. France and Germany are up there with the UK. In fact their figures have been positively skewed with the drivers heading home from Britain.

As @and then pointed out above, it's also affecting other parts of the world for the same reasons... C.O.V.I.D.
