All of Lambeth is under a Section 60 stop and search order

Lambeth police have announced that the entire borough has been placed under a Section 60 order from 3pm today through to 5am tomorrow, Weds 7th November.

This section 60 appears to be part of a London-wide strategy in response to the recent surge in violent crime, as many other boroughs have also put the same powers in place (see tweets below).

Section 60 is a power that allows police officers to stop and search.

Where a Section 60 is in place, it means we can search anyone in a certain area, for example, when there is evidence that serious violence has taken place or may take place.
