Pascagoula alleged alien abduction commemorates 48 years

Calvin Parker, just 19 in 1973, said it happened to him and his fishing buddy, Charlie Hickson one night on the banks of the Pascagoula River.

After decades of staying silent, for fear people would think he was crazy, Parker finally wrote a book and recounted his story to his hometown Friday night.

Dozens of people all ages listened intently to every word.

Parker said, “These things got to us. Two got a hold of Charlie, the other got a hold of me and they turned around and they was carrying us back up inside of what I know now is a UFO, a spaceship or whatever it was and we was going toward that big bright light.”

I was 12-years-old in 1973 and lived 40 miles from where this happened.  Those guys made the news a couple of times but their "celebrity" wasn't desirable :(  They were the butt of jokes for many years.  They weren't the only locals who had such experiences during a few months in '73.  I have a first-cousin who was in the yard of their rural home, playing with her son who was about 6 at the time and they both described seeing what we've come to call a "Grey".  They lived nearly the same distance away from Pascagoula.  I KNOW this lady and if she said it, I believe it.  I also know that if I ever had such an experience, I'd go to my grave without saying anything about it.

The recording of the police interview from October 11, 1973 recently resurfaced.

It's been 47 years since Calvin Parker and Charles Hickson contacted the Jackson County Sheriff's Office claiming they were abducted by aliens. Recently, a recording, said to be made that night of what they told Sheriff Fred Diamond and Capt. Glenn Ryder, has surfaced.

"It was about the time the coronavirus hit," Parker, of Moss Point, said of when he received two copies of the recording. "I'd been talking with him on the internet. He just showed up at my house."

Parker explained the man who gave him copies of the recording was an officer with the Pascagoula Police Department on the night the abduction occurred, but does not want to be identified. Parker said the officer was involved because he fielded roughly 50 phone calls that night from people claiming to have seen something unusual in the sky.

The interview took place on Oct. 11, 1973 after Parker and Hickson claimed they were abducted by aliens while fishing from the bank of the Pascagoula River. News of the event thrust the two into the media spotlight and put the town of Pascagoula on the map. It was unwanted attention for Parker, who tried to distance himself from it.

Here's a better link to the interview recording. It's about 30 minutes long.

you know, it's funny, I happened to just click on a link to listen to Charles Hickson the other day about this particular incident. I'm not sure I quite believe in alien abduction, but his story, the way he told it, was actually very entertaining and pretty damn compelling...despite the very much 50s scifi depiction of aliens, which was what initially caused me to completely disregard the incident

but no, give him a listen, it's kinda fun to hear him tell it.
