And yet I see my 20 something in laws, who live in my basement with their two kids, basically addicted to their phones.

Their kids play with my kids, naturally. But the parents dont monitor them at all, unless theyre getting into candy, or trying to get a tablet. Otherwise the adults are glued to their phones, giggling occasionally. And all they want to talk about is the videos theyve been watching. Tiktok...

I watch the kids, and interact with them. Take them outside. Teach them games. And, yes, I tell on my nieces and get them constantly in trouble. Someone has to monitor them.

Could be your perspective too.

When I was young it was TV that was the evil brain draining destroyer of youth.

We got a lot out of documentaries, got to see the moon landing and such. We survived. And did better than our parents mostly.

But it's good you monitor your niece. It's also a new technology and comes with new dangers.

There good and bad. You are recognising the most important regulator. Moderation is the key.

A guy at work who cant put down his phone got reprimanded for damaging a multimillion dollar machine because he was watching tiktok as he put it back together after a repair. Miss-threaded a bunch of screws. Miss-aligned a component so a cover couldnt lock. And so caused over a day of down time on the machine.

An addiction.

You can only blame him for that. It's not any different to someone who comes in hungover and causes an accident is it?.

So, yes, we live in an amazing time. But at the same time, a time of unbelievable temptations, and attention drains.

The bad often comes with the good. Temptations have ruined lives long before mobile phones. That's a people thing.

I suppose it does found funny in retrospect but it's true!

RFK Biden and Trump wouldn't make it as politicians here.

Seriously, RFK is something of a milestone. Probably the stupidest person to ever enter politics. I continue to be amazed that he is not only in a job as opposed to mental health care, but that people are actually stupid enough to listen and vote for him. Deplorable would be a few steps up from there!

Not to mention MTG. Mate, you have the whackiest and some of the worst politicians on the planet.

I dont know. I was really hoping it wouldn't go the way it has. I think its further evidence 90% of Americans are just selfish, stupid, and slow. Regardless of education, or maybe because of it.

I know you don't like to blame Trump but really, that s when America hit a steep downward trend. It was t just the rest of the globe stunned at that decision, it was near half of America as well.

19 hours ago, DieChecker said:

I'd blame this whole partisan thing, with "us" versus "them" mentality. Its not a one sided thing. It really started, IMHO, under President Obama with the ACA (Obamacare) which caused such hard feelings in its partisanship, the schism remains to this day.

There wasn't so much left right BS. And America was a great deal more respected internationally. Fact is no matter what you believe history has been kind to Obama and things haven't looked as bad as they do before Trump. He has without doubt done damage that could take decades to undo.  You may not realise it, but from an outside view, dropping from Obama to Trump just looks like America gave up and doesn't care about anything and has lost its pride.

Now Biden is calling our allies, Japan and India xenophobic.   What is his end game here.   Just more name calling.

President Biden called the allied nation of Japan "xenophobic" in a speech this week, alongside a slew of other nations he claims are suffering from lack of immigration.

Biden made the remarks extolling the virtues and benefits of immigration on Wednesday at a fundraiser in Washington, D.C.

"This election is about freedom, America and democracy. That’s why I badly need you. You know, one of the reasons why our economy is growing is because of you and many others. Why? Because we welcome immigrants," he said.

"Why is China stalling so badly economically? Why is Japan having trouble? Why is Russia? Why is India? Because they’re xenophobic," the president continued.

Although i love the fact Trump is living rent free in your head (it's a continuation of his trolling while in office), i don't think there's a need to bring him into this thread.

But if you were comparing the two, Trump has a personality, Biden barely has a pulse.

Wow! Hitler also had "personality".

Slow Joe telling it like it is. Some snowflakes are unable to handle the truth, but Darth Brandon probably isn't going to reach the very sensitive anyway.

The consumers keep bringing up the cheap gas under Trump without caring that the US oil producers were going bankrupt due to the negative oil prices.

I think its fine when we don't use our own oil. More in the ground for later... for us.

Both are Americans and are needed in our society.  There should be a happy balance between the two, but the fact is that it fluctuates between the two.

Ill all for supply and demand.

Its when the politicians take credit for it being good, then denying that when its bad, that rankles. But then thats just every politician basically.

On a weird note:  Gas is still around $3.00 here in Iowa.  It's even cheaper if you buy the ethanol blend (but more expensive if you buy premium).

Its trending up from about $4.50. I can find cheaper by looking online and driving out of my way a bit. Off the major freeways its very close to $5.

I don't see how. Going to require a Democrat takeover of Congress. House and Senate, at over 60% in both, to get that done.

That or assassinate the youngish Conservative Justices.

Executive Orders only go so far.

I'd agree about Japan. As a people, and as a government, they don't like outsiders. They barely tolerate tourists.

China, India, Russia... Id say have other problems. China made some bad real estate decisions, and international financing mistakes. And might crash from the internal damages. India... Im not aware has a problem. Russia is fighting a very unpopular war, and otherwise would be doing ok.

I do agree the USA needs immigrants. I simply hate seeing them coming illegally across rivers and deserts.

Through 118 statements, speeches and chats with reporters spanning from Jan. 1 to April 24, the White House has officially updated its transcript with corrections to what the president said out loud at least 148 times.

Seems like, mostly, theyve stopped trying to explain what he "meant", and started with, "The Administration still says...".

Clear sign he shouldnt be running for President if you as me.

Thats not anyone forcing anyone off the ballot. Thats the Democrats pushing out their party nomination date out past when some states Constitutionally need to know whos running.

Republcans are having their nomination event a month sooner, and so have no issues.

Democrats got an exception in 2020. Probably will this year also.

Republicans also got an exception in 2020. As both parties did in 2012.

Seems like it shouldn't an issue now. Except, you know, to try and keep Slow Joe off the ballot this time.

I found old gems like this one from Fox News while looking up things about 2012 in Ohio, though. The more things change....

Quote

Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted announced Wednesday that his office found 17 non-citizens illegally cast ballots in the 2012 presidential election – and has referred the case for possible prosecution… Husted also found that 274 non-citizens remain on the voting rolls. President Obama beat Mitt Romney in Ohio by just 2 percentage points in November 2012.

Class homework problem: how does 17 votes compare to 2% of the votes cast in Ohio?

If you have ever spent time in any of those three countries, you would know that it is true. There are probably other countries around the world just a s xenophobic. It does not seem the real decline of those economies is solely  the fault of xenophobia.

It was a feeble attempt to end the xenophobia in the US by pointing out those nations are declining and should be a warning to us   It will not end  here nor bring us together. Hate and fear are too useful; as political tools to abandon. It was a fail by Joe.

I suppose that with the correct composition of Congress, Darth Brandon can do nearly anything. At least, that argument is on the record at the Supreme Court, I believe.

You are right about that. It probably was a real bonehead move, with a small percentage chance that it was planned as an precursor for future negotiations.

The senile old fart has been doing this sort of crap for five years and nobody cared, so it's nothing special. Why do you think they hid him in the basement? In the meantime, it is a strange election year. Don't Black Lives Matter, anymore?

Doesn't mean you let it slide though, does it.
Illegal voting should be prosecuted no matter who the vote was for.
