Johnson's pusuit of the Green Agenda may be his 'poll tax moment'- it will be interesting to see how it pans out politically.

The longer the chat went on, the more Boris started to wing it. As if he was a public entertainer who was obliged to make up for the fact that Gates was a personality free zone who could be relied on to put any audience to sleep. So Johnson then said that Cop26 was going to be a huge success because everyone would be there – except possibly the leaders of China and Russia, two of the world’s largest polluters, without whose cooperation global action on the climate crisis is just p***ing in the wind.

Boris also went on to say there were huge profits to be made from investing in long-term solutions to the climate emergency. Gates looked at Johnson in amazement. He hadn’t realised he had just signed a deal with a serial lunatic. Hadn’t he already said the whole point about these speculative technologies was that some would fail and that there might not be bumper returns? Or any returns? Certainly not in the foreseeable future.

So what would your advice be to Boris, should he ignore climate change ? Like Trump.

The EU is very happy to invest in the green agenda and claim it will boost the economy as new tech is rolled out. Money given to EU members is dependent on a percentage of the cash being spent on green tech. But I guess you know that. So why is it a problem that the UK does the same?

Should the private sector be encouraged to take part and spend their own money or should the entire cost be laid at the door of the tax payer?

As with all new tech some will fail but it always has done and this is how capitalism works, business either bear the loss or enjoys the success.

I am not sure why the Guardian thinks the capitalist system has to be redesigned for the UK and green tech.;)

Apart from giving them the opportunity to take a swipe at Boris.

From glancing at past UK threads I get that feeling that you are very anti-tory.

But certainly something like OP is a good thing, correct? And is commendable.

We all need to be fighting climate change.

I agree. No, I am pro-Tory, always have been, I am just anti our present populist government. No pro the Guardian either, but like them I find it hard not take the opportunity to take a swipe at Boris.
