‘Festival of Brexit’ unboxes its big ideas

What was once the Festival of Brexit has become Unboxed, a dizzying array of oil rigs, dream machines and food boxes.

The ten projects for the £120 million public-funded event to “celebrate creativity and bring people together” next year were unveiled yesterday.

The festival, announced by Theresa May in 2018, will bring together scientists, technologists, engineers and artists, the organisers said. There will be poetry, computer coding, music, pop-up forests and a decommissioned oil rig in an abandoned lido in Weston-Super-Mare. “We are unboxing creativity,” Martin Green, the chief creative officer, said. “We hope that future generations of creative talent will be inspired.

“The future is about combining science, tech, engineering, art and maths. We also want it to be fun.”

Meanwhile, in the real UK:

Dominic Raab has urged UK companies to hire more ex-offenders when they leave prison in order to ease the nation's labour shortages.

The Justice Secretary said companies struggling to fill roles should realise there is a 'captive market' of potential workers who are more skilled than bosses may think.

He said many ex-convicts have the 'right kind of attitude that those employers want' and businesses have found former prisoners take 'less sick days' and work harder than other staff.

I don't think a 'Festival Of Brexit' will unite the UK or make 'Remoaners' 'get behind Brexit'. Remoaners will always feel angry that Brexiters are insisting we are more isolated and poorer than we once were, just so they can wave their silly little union flags on sticks while they reminisce about the British Empire.

Perhaps we could re-name it as the 'Festival of Re-Join', and Leavers can get behind that idea.

Or they could start by telling us the benefits we are enjoying since leaving 10 months ago- that would help. It seems to me the only part of the UK that has expereinced any benefits since January is Northern Ireland:Brexit: Protocol could promote NI as 'distribution hub' - BBC News

Brexit is bad and damaging the UK.

But 'Brexiteers in Denial' is worse and will cause real damage.

However, Brexiteers willing to fund style over substance says it all. A Festival of Brexit!! Only absolute idiots - or very clever politicians who know the kind of public they are dealing with - would take £120 million in the current climate and sink it into dross. I wonder who will be skimming off the top?
