Still Waters Posted October 21, 2021 #1 Share Posted October 21, 2021 Police will have to check someone’s medical history before issuing a gun licence in the wake of the mass shooting in Plymouth, the Government has confirmed. From November 1, all firearms applications must be accompanied by a medical document signed by a registered, practising doctor, the Home Office said. New statutory guidance published on Wednesday sets out how any relevant health records – particularly any information on mental health, neurological conditions and substance abuse – will have to be reviewed as part of the process. Quite. Why did they give it back after they themselves were involved in his assault complaint? There is a similar lack of 'thinking it through' with the requirement that undercover lone police officers should get phone verification that they are who they say they are if they arrest a female (in the wake of Sarah Everards murder)- that would only work if the potential attacker/abducter was not a police officer- the whole problem is, he was a police officer. Perhaps the answer lies in training, though why a police officer needs training to know it is not acceptable to assault or murder a member of the public escapes me.
