EU summit to load pressure on Poland over rule of law

BRUSSELS -- European Union leaders pressured a defiant Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki Thursday to fall back into line on recognizing that EU law trumps national decision-making, hoping that dialogue will stave off a fundamental crisis in the bloc.

Morawiecki instead painted a picture of an overbearing union treating its 27 member nations as mere provinces, usurping ever more powers and feeling free to impose its values at will against the wishes of sovereign peoples. Facing the threat of losing out on tens of billions of EU funds because of his stance, he countered that Poland “will not act under the pressure of blackmail.”

Everything Brexit-related is so bizarre.

Brexiters first wanted Poles out of the UK, now they can't get enough of Polish politics. Of course, it's just desperate hope that Poland will make Brexit seem less uniquely stupid.

If I was willing to assign evil intelligence to Brexit platform, I'd say they want Polish workforce back, only without EU protection. But I'm not willing to assign any type of intelligence to Brexit. Brexiters are just stumbling from one bizarre self-sabotage to another, loudly cheering for anyone who seems willing to repeat their mistakes.

Now, for the sake of countering braindead propaganda:

Poland is not about to repeat your mistakes.

I told you in the other, essentially the same thread, that Poland won't leave EU. Not even PiS, the party that is making domestic extreme nationalist points, would self-destruct itself and the country with an actual Polout.

Their nationalist point was that Polish Constitution is the supreme law in Poland. As constitutions of other EU members are supreme laws in each respective country. It's what a constitution is - the supreme law of a country. It's redundant at best and retarded at worst to ponder if the supreme law is supreme.

Nothing nationalist in it by itself. But if you remember that PiS was p***ed off with the EU warning them that their "justice reform" consists of throwing professional judges out and replacing them with party members, then it becomes clear why otherwise very obvious fact about supremacy of constitution was misused for nationalist purposes.

When countries join the EU, they agree on common laws that bind them. Logically. Otherwise it wouldn't be a union. Can EU laws actually trump national decision-making? Only if that national decision was incompatible with European society.

Installing party-approved judges is against European society norms. It's a reverse into totalitarian crap.

No wonder majority of population in Poland does not find that acceptable.

So keep grasping at straws, dear Brexiters. It's especially amusing that you've found Polish straws to grasp at

It is the only funny thing about Brexit, only Brexiters can't see the irony - now they are sooo worried about the rights of the Poles!

They needn't fret too much, the Poles are also worried about their rights, which is why they have been demonstrating to stay in the EU!

It is a pity the Brexiters couldn't support their own rights, when the UK's elite were persuading them to vote against their own interests to safeguard the interests of the ultra-wealthy in the UK.

The Brexiters were persuaded that our UK judges are "the enemy of the people" and now Dominic Raab is trying to pass legislation so that government ministers can overule parliament and the rule of law if they feel it 'expedient'.

Sheep, stupid gullible sheep, like our farmers and fishermen.
